Let’s Chat | Belif Peat Miracle Revital Clay Mask Review

As you’ll soon see I’ve put quite the dent in my Belif Peat Miracle Revital Clay Mask over the past couple months then it finally dawned on me, you should prooobably review that before it’ll all gone. A few people have asked me my thoughts about this on IG and I’m always pretty mum about it. Not because I don’t thoroughly enjoy it but simply because there aren’t enough characters there to express just how much I love it and why.

For $40? I Belif this better work!

As with many of my skincare splurges I purchased this on a whim while I was returning something to Sephora, the irony. I was introduced to Belif about a two years ago after being lucky enough to win one of their giveaways. I fell in love with just how gentle and soothing their First Aid Anti-hangover Soothing Mask was so I was willing to go out on a limb and drop $40 for a clay mask. Now my return hand is too strong, no shame bout it. Upon initial inspection of the ingredients list I wasn’t seeing anything that superbly wowed me. I don’t know why I go into my shopping endeavors as a pessimist just side eyeing everything like I’m not going to buy it anyway but I do.

Although I was apprehensive about the ingredients list I’m so here for Belif as a brand and the meticulous formulations that goes into their products. They’ve adapted the philosophies and practices of the extraordinary Victorian botanist Duncan Napier to develop a genuine herbal cosmetic brand that I’m thoroughly here for. We’re going to discuss Mr. Napier in a bit because his traditional herbal extraction process is poignant to their whole process but more on the Belif brand.

I can truly respect the fact that Belif completely eliminates unnecessary packaging and advertisements while standing firm in outstanding quality, natural ingredients and science. They’ve eradicated any detrimental synthetic substances in the formulation all of their products focusing on natural ingredients that effectively impact the skin’s health.

Being that Duncan Napier’s philosophies are so crucial to their brand I think it’s time to break down some of the research I’ve found about his work.

He’s like the Don of herbal medicine.

Mr. Napier was truly an extraordinary botanist and herbalist, given his tragic upbringing he’s just inspirational all around. He was born in 1843 to an unknown woman who gave him up within hours of his birth. I’m not sure if it was an act of kindness or one solely for servitude but he was taken in by the local publican, Mr. Napier and his wife in Blackhall, Edinburgh. Unfortunately his stepmother was a vicious drunk who abused the child severely and treated him no better than a slave. Young Duncan was forced to work in his stepfather’s pub where many patrons took note of the cruelty the boy was subjected to by his stepmother.

One pivotal patron being a local farmer and ploughman, Andrew Nelson. He took a liking to the young boy and procured his foster parents to allow him to spend the summer months with him in the countryside around Penicuik, Scotland. From the tender age of 5 he became a grandfather figure to Duncan encouraging his inquiries into plants and nature. Essentially planting the seed for his love of botany.

I found it quite interesting and disturbing that Duncan had never tasted water until the age of 16. Like many others living during the Victorian age he grew up drinking beer because water was unsanitary at the time. He later pledged a life free of alcohol and tobacco. His interests in herbal medicines didn’t develop many years until after he was married in 1858 when he came across a copy of Brook’s Family Herbal at a market stand. He developed a chronic cough while working as a baker’s apprentice, it’s believed that the inhaling of flour dust was the cause of his persistent cough. After tweaking and experiments he created the legendary Lobelia Cough Syrup, clearing up his cough in less than 6 months. In May of 1860 he opened the first Napier’s herbal shop which still remains open to this day making it Scotland’s oldest herbal house. He became an esteemed member of the Medical Reformers of England and the British Pharmaceutical Society.

Now some 152 years later Belif has based their formulations off the traditional knowledge and herb processing practices of Mr. Napier and my skin sings nothing but praises.

Down to the nitty gritty.

Now that I’ve provided you with some background about the brand and their inspiration let’s get into this Peat Miracle Revital Clay Mask. What I enjoy most about this creamy mask is that’s it’s non-drying. Although it does have kaolin clay and bentonite clay the mask does dry down and leave my skin feeling constricted as clay masks tend to do. I’ve found that not all clay masks are created equal, some can be very heavy while either feel like they’re barely there. This mask is the latter. It glides onto my skin so easily and feels like there’s nothing there as it’s drying.

I really don’t need much to cover my whole face but I’ve always been heavy handed so there’s that. The mask is light and airy, fluffy even making for really easy application and wash off.

The fact that I can still somewhat smile once it’s dried is a win. I got the super cute LINE friends headband from Luisa in a surprise package she sent my way. I opened it up on my IG.

After washing off and seeing just how radiant my skin looked after every use I had to take notice and really pay attention to the ingredients and just what they were doing for me. A couple ingredients that I took notice of are peat, raspberry leaf, and horse chestnut. I’ve come across these ingredients while sheet masking a few times but took the time to seriously research them for this review.

Have you ever heard of the ancient bog mummies discovered in the peatlands of Finland in the 1950s? The facial features of the mummies, the eyes, nose, and mouth as well as the body’s exterior had been so thoroughly preserved while internal organs and bones had deteriorated. Many scientists and researchers credit this amazing preservation to the protective properties of the peatlands. Peat moss is naturally rich in anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and photoprotective attributes that are innumerable for cosmetic uses. Being that it’s also rich in fatty acids, essential oil and lipids it makes for an amazing natural astringent and detoxifier.

Much like the former the anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties of raspberry leaf is innumerable. These properties can be accredited to the anthocyanins found in raspberries. Anthocyanins work to repair damaged cells and aid in the promotion of cell turnover while providing protection from free radicals much like antioxidants do. Raspberries naturally contain our favorite acid, salicylic which is amazing for those with acneic prone skin or just in need of some exfoliation. Horse chestnuts are pretty unique because studies have shown that horse chestnut extract was almost 20 times more effective at the absorption of of free radicals than vitamin C.

My final verdict.

I’m absolutely in love with this clay mask and that’s not easy for me because it’s a clay mask. There are so many clay masks available on the market it’s tedious to differentiate between what’s good and what’s just a gimmick. I’m happy to say that in my opinion, Belif is the real deal Holyfield. I do want to try a few of the other products from this particular peat revital collection because this worked so well for. I’d like to use the other products in tandem to see if they’re all copacetic for my skin.

Kidulting #1 | Japanese Blind Snack, Five Nights at Freddy’s and One Punch Man Blind Bags

Manga and blind bags? Blind boxes and comics? They’re like hand and hand, right? Yes this the rational I use to mentally convince myself when I purchase yet another blind bag or box instead of the book I intended on purchasing when I initially walk into a store. This case is no different I swear I went in for a book for class but walked out with the last two One Punch Man blind bags Forbidden Planet NYC had left. Sheena unknowingly encouraged my love and obsession with them when she sent me the Kabaya ice cream set.

I’ve been collecting dunny figures and a few larger figures off and on since 2010 when I discovered the magic of Kidrobot in SoHo during one of my many city adventures. Being that I’m getting into the swing of blogging again I thought it would be fun to start a new section of my blog dedicated to another one of my many obsessions!

Lotte Department Store is clearly the plug

I received this Kabaya Petit Pastel Ice Cream snack from Sheena in that wonderful box of goodies she sent my way and I’m so excited to try this, again. During one of my perusing sessions at my local J-mart I came across this cute little set in the sweets aisle ad immediately put it in my basket. I mean, the cuteness factor clearly sold me on this. That one I purchased from J-mart however didn’t include a mystery option like this one.

Noooo I didn’t eat it too fast and not take notice, I was in the aisle for a hot minute trying to find snacks if it had the mystery flavor I definitely would have noticed. I’m not sure if this one was only available at Lotte Department Store where Sheena purchased this from or if the one I had was just old but clearly they are the plug and the place I need to be when in Korea although this is a Japanese snack. More mystery food please!

She saved herself some change as well she paid 1,500 won which is about $1.40 and I paid about $3.90 here in the city, almost 3x as much!

First of all, the packaging! It’s a ice cream shop! How can you not?!

The packaging on the back in completely in Japanese so I’m not sure if the mystery is a special flavor or special color but I’m prepared to tear it open and find out.

Okay, I see! The mystery isn’t in the flavors but rather the chocolate shapes for the cones. As you can see I received all the colors but the shapes on the bottom. Some of them are all chocolate pieces on the bottom with a crispy biscuit on top and some of the bottoms are just plain chocolate.

I broke my the nail on my middle finger but we’re here to check out the crispy biscuit on top! They taste very similar to a Kit Kat or the biscuit you’d find in a malt ball.

Once the ice cream is all set up in the tray it’s just too cute (and tasty)! Sheena this was a fun one.

Rite Aid sells blind bags these days?!

Where have I been and why did I not know that Rite Aid sells blind bags? What a time to be alive. So I was in Rite Aid re-upping on some Tussin when I was walking to the register and came across a mini rack of blind bags! The pickings were slim but I found one that figuratively screamed at me, Just Toys Intl. Five Nights at Freddy’s Backpack Hangers.

I almost grabbed the Shopkins one but the creepy bear seemed to get me and there was only one of these left so that was kind of a factor. This blind bag was $6.99 at the drugstore, definitely on the pricey end. Especially since I later found these at Forbidden Planet NYC for $3.99. Lesson learned.

There are 12 to collect and two specials! I’d like to think my odds of getting the green smiling zombie rabbit on the front are pretty good! He’s cute in a very morbid way if that even makes sense. Upon feeling and squeezing on the bag to oblivion it feels like there’s some type of plastic or cardboard inside to prevent you from feeling up the toy and guessing which one is inside. Let’s just cut it open and see what’s inside!

Okay so it’s not double bagged and it looks like I got Freddy the teddy bear right on the front?

I did! I wish there was a cool collecticale card inside but Freddy Fazbear is pretty solid too. Being that he is the main antagonist of the whole collection I’m pumped I got him on the first try!

ONNNE PUUUUUUUUNNNNNCCCCCHHHHH!!!

After my dental appointment I needed a pick me up to get me back in the being around people mood. I initially walked into Forbidden Planet to possibly find a horror or gore manga to further my thesis for my English class but the blind boxes are right by the registers as soon as you walk in, clearly I got distracted. There were only two of these Viz Media One Punch Man blind bags left so they were obviously there for me to buy. At $4.99 a bag I wasn’t too pressed about the price.

It wasn’t until my stiff mouth and I got on the train back home did I realize I didn’t have a book. I also forgot to take pictures here, again I just came from the dentist by the time taking pictures became a thought the anesthetic was wearing off. I shop here quite frequently for books and blind bag so I’m sure I’ll have some great photos to show you very soon!

I’m hoping there’s a bit more variety if there’s a second series to this collection because series 1 has a possible four Saitama figures to collect! I love his little bald head like the next gal but there were other characters and creatures from the season 1 anime that could’ve been chosen for this bag. If they were looking to use characters that  appeared in season 1 and would reoccuring in seasons to come they could’ve went with Sonic or Silver Fang of the ridiculously badass Tatsumaki, HELLO! If they wanted to throw in some villains from season 1 the Deep Sea King or Carnage Kabuto could’ve been pretty dope too. I just feel like four Saitama options are a bit saturated.

The chaser figure is the Saitama with red eyes and a cape  as displayed in the picture.

I’m hoping for the Lord Boros figure or possibly the Genos in fighting stance, just not a duplicate. I can definitely feel a piece of cardboard wrapped around the figure but I can’t feel anything distinctive to give away what’s inside. Let’s just cut them open!

Okay so the bag isn’t dark and I see a blond head, it’s safe to say that I got one of the Genos figures!

I got the Genos figure I wanted! Sweeet!

You see that dome?! It’s safe to say that I definitely didn’t get a duplicate.

I’m hoping the paint job on the series 2 blind bags will be better because the paint job on Saitama’s body is kind of wonky and Genos has his FAIR share of yellow paint on his hairline but it’s all gravy.

I’m just glad that they aren’t duplicates or double Saitama figures, it’s a win my standards.

The figure stands connect like a honeycomb so as you collect them all you can connect your pieces and have them standing together.

I thoroughly enjoyed opening these! I can’t wait to come back next week with more blind items to open and collect. I’ll be paying a visit to Kinokuniya Books and Toy Tokyo so hopefully I come across a few gems while I’m there!

What’s good y’all! It’s been a minute since I’ve updated on my blog! How have y’all asses been? How’s 2018 treating you? Keeping yourself healthy? Washing your damn face?! Lol I couldn’t resist that one to be honest. I hope you’re all well and prospering, me? My life has been up, down and a little sideways at the moment but I’m taking it day to day just trying to breath. Currently I’ve got a cold, flu-like situation going on so I feel like utter trash but I’ll be damned if I didn’t get my sick ass to the computer to type! My voice is completely shot, what taste buds, I’m congested but sickness be damned! I’ve been bitten by the blogging bug. My wonderful friend Sheena sent me PHENOMENAL packages that I have to show you. When I say PHENOMENAL packages I mean off the charts, ugly cry worthy, cream of the crop type of boxes. I’m still completely floored by everything she sent! I can’t say thank you enough which is why I’m actively shopping for more goodies to send her and typing this blog post!

You da real MVP!

Sheena and I have been following each other on IG for a couple years now but never really interacted with each other until recently. *STOP* please go follow Sheena. *PROCEED* Sheena extended the olive branch one night offering to do a swap with me and the spark was lit! I’m building a friendship and rapport with her that I never expected to find and I fully welcome it. I’m able to let my guard down and be myself with her. It should be no surprise to you at this point that I’m socially awkward and a little weird however Sheena embraced and accepted me from the onset, I can’t fully express to you what that means to me. I’m rough around the edges and I know it but Sheena pulled me in and kept me close, I feel like we’ve known each other for years! Getting to know her has been a rewarding experience and I’m so humbled to say that she’s my friend.

Is it too early to drop that “I love you” bomb? Hell no.

*Quick Note*

Expect a lot of “cutes”, “OMGs”, “WTFs” and “SHEEEEENAAAA” because I was very excited opening these packages, typing this post and everything that went along with it. Let me live.

Damn, she’s TOO GOOD!

When we agreed to swap we both said we would keep it small because international swaps can quickly add up especially since boxes are priced by weight. What started off as a small swap immediately morphed as we started to learn more about each other. I was determined to fit as many Oreo’s as I could in her box because I had no idea the Oreo’s in Korea don’t compare to the ones we have in the states. She also wanted some lippies and blushes that she wasn’t able to get her hands on in Korea so I really wanted to send her products she could appreciate and enjoy.

She was determined to fit, well everything else because Mama sent me two boxes PACKED with goodies. Once she told me she couldn’t fit everything into one box I knew she was coming with something serious. Completely blindsided! I can’t even being to tell you how truly grateful and humbled I am. I cried for at least a hour. I had a full headache and felt lightheaded to the point where I had to stop and sit down somewhere, no bullshit. I knew Sheena was sending a box of goodies but never in my wildest dreams did I think she would do all this! I’m absolutely speechless, I’m not even sure where to start! Grab a seat because we’re going to be here for a while.

I want to start with skincare because I thought I knew skincare, thought being the operative there. Being that Sheena lives in Korea the access she has to products is off the charts. I know for a fact that her stash is the story of legends! She sent a bunch of products I’ve never seen or heard of before! Much like many of my IG skin connoisseurs scrolling on the gram I came across the super cute Kung Fu Panda masks sold at Olive Young and put them on my list of “must buys” when we visit Korea. When she asked me which mask I wanted to try most I immediately said those because they immediately came off the top of the dome. Mama went Kung Fu Panda crazy! Not only did she send me the one I asked for but she sent one I didn’t even know existed!

Missha Herb In Nude Sheet Mask [MoisturizingCare]. This is describes as an extremely thin and transparent highly adhesive natural-derived cellulose sheet brewed with rose flowers, ginger root extract, arginine, and licorice root extract to help provide moisture leaving the skin radiant and smooth. I can’t even front I’m uber pumped about giving this a try.

DreamWorks [Trolls] Are You The Real Branch Mask. We really need an Olive Young in NYC because clearly we’re severely missing out!

I’ve heard of and read many of your #sheetfaced reviews for some these masks but haven’t had the pleasure of trying a lot of them. Since I put myself on a no buy of sorts in July 2017 I’ve put a slow halt to buying sheet masks for myself. I’m so excited to have to new blood in the mix!

Missha x BeyondCloset by GoTae Yong Real Solution Tencel Sheet Mask. This mask is quite exciting as well! It’s described as a tencel + hydro gel blend. Gel ingredients were extracted from Carrageenan and Konjac then put onto a soft tencel sheet to boost adherence and moisture to the skin. This mask is formulated using cauliflower extract, mallow leaf extract, macadamia seed oil, olive fruit oil, jicama root extract and Indian lotus root extract to name a few.

Acwell Water Moisturizing Daanji Mask. I cancelled my Facetory subscription the month before this mask came in a box. Homegirl was vexed! So excited that I’m finally able to try this gem.

I don’t know what this mask says because it’s in all Korean but I know it’s by Cettua and the piggy is adorable! I’m assuming it’s a both hydrating and collagen related mask. I sent her a Cettua mask as well so I hope she enjoys it.

EtudeHouse0.2AirTherapy Mask [Blueberry]. I’ve tried the strawberry variant of this mask about a year ago and it was a so-so experience for me. The mask fit well and moisturized my skin but it had a strong alcohol meets artifical scrawberry scent that I could’ve done without. Fingers crossed that these are much better!

Etude House 0.2 Air Therapy Mask [GreenTea].

Sheena did you know that I’m completely obsessed with warming eye masks? Like really and truly?! You had too! The one she sent is an aromatherapy treatment and I’m so pumped about it!

I asked her if she could send a foot peeling mask because they’re grossly addicting and in my humble opinion the best ones are in Korea. She told me she found one at Daiso but I had no idea that she’d send one from one of her favorite brands Nature Republic.

I’ve never tried anything from Banila Co. other than their golden aloe sheet masks so when I saw a bright pink bag with some weight to it I knew it was going down! She sent me their award winning bestseller!

Banila Co. Clean It Zero! SHEENA! WTF! You know what…at this point I’m typing as a corpse because she’s clearly trying to kill me. I’m convinced. My heart or brain can’t process this!

As the magic continues she sent products from a brand I’ve never heard of, Lirikos!

Lirikos Marine Energy Facial Eraser Cleansing Water and their Facial Eraser Cleansing Oil Foam.

Contrary to the former I have heard of Isa Knox through my IG perusing but have never seen any of their products here in the city so I’m pleasantly surprised to see it now!

Isa Knox Red Power Vitalizing Serum. This product is gorgeous!

I’m still a bit salty that our Skinfood flagship store is now a Besfren Beauty. I love besfren that’s my best friend but having a Skinfood flagship store in such close proximity to me was clutch! When I saw the Black Sugar Mask Wash Off in the box you know I hit a jig, right? The Strawberry one is my absolute favorite but the Black Sugar Mask is the OG! And it comes with a mixing bowl and spatula on top!

She loves herself some Nature Republic and Innisfree! She strongly stands by their recycling programs and I’m all here for saving our planet so I should’ve known that she was going to send some goodies but I didn’t expect to see this Nature Republic Super Aqua Max Cream!

The jar is gorgeous! I don’t want to open it yet because I have other creams open right now but I’m itching to just feel it on my skin! Uggggh!

Nature Republic makes fancy ass wipes like this?! These are already in my purse!

Nature Republic City-Care Marine Water Wipes. My nose is stuffed so I can’t get a full sniff but my one nostril is telling me these are bomb! And they’re so thick and plush! I use wipes for everything so this is truly coveted.

She also included a travel size of Innisfree’sGreen Tea Cleansing Foam which is surprisingly gentle and smells like green apples!

She included a boatload of samples, deluxe samples and cotton squares that I’m not running through anytime soon!

You though she was done!?

I already told you I’m dead but Sheena brought my ass back just to kill me again! She sent makeup! I’m still very green when it comes to buying and gifting makeup but she’s clearly a pro! She spoiled me with enough goodies to last FOREVA! I can easily get intimidated by lip products but she was very strategic in her shopping and sent some products that she though would suit me well. I truly, truly, TRULY appreciate all her efforts. She hit every mark and I can’t to swatch everything!

Isn’t it’s so cute! Etude House makes me want to try everything! This cute moisturizing lip tint is supposed to give me sweet color like ice cream. It’s such a gorgeous cherry red.

I’m pretty sure I’m hooked on anything with little piggys and Boss the shark from Artbox at this point.Spring is in full swing in Korea and this color  from Etude House screams springtime.

So many ladies on the gram and YouTube have been raving about this SaemmulWrapping Tint by the Saem.

I can’t see why, the color is gorgeous and it’s genuinely an intriguing product. I’ll definitely be asking Sheena a bunch more f questions before giving this a go!

Sheena was very excited about these Nature Republic duo pots! She ordered them specifically for me and again WTF?! They’re gorgeous! They’re supposed to look like macarons! How cute?!

These lip and cheek tints pots pack a bunch of pigment, I can’t wait to mix them and experiment.

When I saw this Face Shop blush I was immediately intimidated by the bright orange color, like girl whet? Where am I going with this on?But then I went and put some on my face...

She was right on the money and of course she knew that this was supposed to be for me. I’m gonna watch some Jackie Aina tutorials and get my life in order because clearly Sheena knew!

I knew she was sending me one of the palettes from Etude House’s new cherry blossoms themed collection and The Winnie the Pooh palette that she wasn’t getting much use out of but a new Missha palette too?! I’m genuinely speechless. Like how? Is this for me? Really?

We both almost fainted when we saw the new Etude House Play Color Eyes Palette. It’s gorgeous! She got me the #CherryBlossom set and I couldn’t be happier! It’s a nice mix of matte and shimmery shadows.

This Missha Sunshine Color Filter Shadow Palette has got some weight to it and it’s absolutely gorgeous! I hope she owns one of these herself because it’s so pretty.

I wholeheartedly appreciate the English names on the shadow protecting screen. “AmberGlow” and “DarkRoasted” are already my favorite colors!

She absolutely fell in love with the Winnie the Pooh Mono Pop Eyes Palette when she initially got it but much like with anything as time passed she started to love it a little less and didn’t get much use out of it. When we agreed to swap she asked me if I could give him a new home and of course I said yes! Look at this beauty!

She was a little leery because she used the palette a few times and didn’t know if I wanted it. I could’ve snatched her ass up then say “Bad Sheena!” for even saying something like that! As I’ve already told her she’s stuck with me for life so of course we’re sharing shit at this point. I’m so thankful that you offered to send this palette my way and I’ll truly treasure it.

Omg SHEENA!?! My heart can’t take this overwhelming generosity! When did you have the time! I envy those with immediate access to Artbox and Daiso. How do you not go broke?! Sheena blessed me with a glimpse of the greatness and I damn near fainted. I told her that I thoroughly enjoying bullet journaling and that I’m currently planning a trip for Ken and I to Korea next year so she said she’d send some stickers to help with my itinerary! She’s truly one of the sweetest people I have the pleasure of knowing.

I almost got these nails stickers confused for regular stickers! These nail decals are so fun! I know nail art is huge in Korea so when she told me she threw in some nail decals I was pumped!

I’m always down to get washi wasted but it’s hard to do that at Michaels. If the cute ones aren’t on sale they’re at least $4.99 a pop. For tape? Girl I got bills stop playing. I asked if she couple could pick up a cute roll for me the next time she went to Daiso. Not only did she send me a cute strawberry roll from Daiso but she sent two from the Line Friends store as well!

The sticky memo pad is so cute! I’m not sure what this character’s name is but she’s drawn in the style of other Sumikko Gurashi characters at Artbox. It goes perfectly with my Iren ballpoint pen!

I’m not sure when I’m planning on sticking this magnet yet but where I put her she needs to be seen! She’s the Queen damn it! Bask in her cuteness!

It’s no secret that I’m an avid reader of manga, the Bear bookmark is life! And his Afro is too perfect! He’s honestly one of my favorite items that she sent. I don’t want to bore you by gushing over a bookmark but I genuinely love him!

These last two items are truly treasures to me. I’m not taking the pin out of the plastic and I’m putting the stickers in my special box. It’s not everyday that I receive stickers from the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics?! SHEEEENAAAA WHAT?! Yes! Yes she did! Sheena had the pleasure and opportunity to attend the 2018 Winter Olympics this year and was able to snag extra goodies when she went. When she told me she was sending some House of Switzerland stickers I almost flipped my lid but she added the pin too! Omg! Girl! Sheena! Waiiiiit! I WASN’T READY!!!!!

“I’m dead Sheena!?!…DEAD! Wait she sent snack too?!”

I know, Sheena knows, my dentist knows and your ass knows that I love me some snacks! Sweet, savory, spicy, you know it I’m down to try it! I’m obviously coming back from Korea broke next year because most of my money is going towards snacks! Sheena opened the floodgates with all the new delicacies for us to try. I’ve only tried one of the candies she sent before everything else is new  to me and I’m so excited to dip my grubby paws in a little bit of everything.

I’ve tried this Kabaya mini ice cream chocolate set after perusing the candy aisle of my local J-mart and was so excited when I found them.

Not only do they taste really good but they’re cute too! This new one she sent me comes with a mystery flavor! It’s like a 2 for 1! A blind box and a sweet treat!

These Biscotto Doraemon Vanilla Milk Wafer Sticks look delicious! I already gave Ken fair warning that I’m not sharing any of these and he completely agreed after seeing alllll the other snacks she sent particularly the sweet and spicy squid.

He’s uber pumped about trying this! I had to get it away from him to take pictures before he was able to scarf it down.

The cuteness is really at an all time high with these snacks! The cuteness and the innovation really. I’m so excited to try everything but the Monster Chocoballs clearly stand out. I’m so curious to see what the texture is about.

I’m also very curious about these Baby Star Ramen Chicken straw chip situation. We have similar chips here but they’re potato flavored and almost airy and light in texture.

These feel crunchy like, well ramen. I’m so pumped to see what these taste like.

These snacks by Nongshim look like they fall on that same ramen vein. The little carrot on the front is literally breathing fire I’m expecting these to have a kick to them.

Ken and I are both excited to try theseOrion World Premium Whole Almond Candies! The look they’re encased in toffee and I love me some toffee.

Tsum Tsums!

I had no idea who these cute guys were until Lou Lou put me onto them last year and these I’m here for anything cute and Tsum Tsum related. When she showed me these Juicy Jelly candies from Daiso I was all the way here for these little cuties! I’m not sure if “gummy” is synonymous with “jelly” in Korea because these look like the cutest gummy bears I’ve seen to date!

Sheena where did you find these Sour Fries?! They’re so cute! Have you tried them yet? These Bebeto Sour Fries Jelly Gum look like so much fun. I wonder if they’re as sour as his tears are letting on.

She sent these delicious yogurt chocolate cream filled candies. I’m not sure if they’re strawberry or milk or white chocolate flavored but these are bomb!

Whooooooooooooo! This was one helluvah care package young lady! I’ve run through a full range of emotions while going through these boxes and I’m so floored that you’ve generously gifted it all to me Sheena. Honestly and truly never did I expect all this. I’m eternally grateful for everything that you’ve done for me. Saying thank you doesn’t feel adequate enough. This whole experience has been a pleasure Sheena and you already know I’m gathering more goods for you literally as I type! Multitasking!

I’m truly blessed to have friends and family who love and care for me, bestowing their blessings on me in ways I can’t always fathom but I’m so grateful for them all. Sheena, girl I can’t wait to send you a boatload full of goodies for blindsiding and spoiling me like this. As for my blog and reviews, I would be doing all of my dear friends a severe disservice if I didn’t try everything and share my many opinions on everything. 

I’m actively working to get better at updating on my blog more frequently. Like many I get sucked in to the microcosm of Instagram and the instant gratification of posting then going on about my business. I’m quickly realizing that I can’t truly expound on what I want to say about some products because their aren’t enough characters there then laziness sinks in and there goes my review effort. I’m a work in progress!

Mad Mixtress! Belle Bar Organic Anti-Shedding Tea Rinse x Mustard Oil Infusion

Hello everyone! I genuinely hope you’re all well!

I’m beyond excited to share this tea rinse with you guys. I’ve been quite DIY obsessed as of late, I’m not sure if it’s my failing “no buy” challenge to self or the process of revamping my haircare routine and practices but I’ve got this sudden urge to just make stuff. In any case through one of my many late night YouTube perusing sessions I came across the process of tea rinsing your hair to reduce the amount of shedding, aiding in hair growth and softening the hair. I’ve done a black tea rinse or two in the past but I’ve never been consistent with them therefore they just fell to the wayside. It was also very early in my hair journey and didn’t really know what I was doing. You’d think doing a tea rinse would be simple, just boil some water, steep your tea bags and pour it over your head right? No. I didn’t know if I should be adding oils to my mix? Or if I should be adding a preservative? Should I be using distilled water over regular ol’ tap? Yeaaah, no I had too many unanswered questions so it was onto the next.

Fast forward many years later, I’m currently in an in between phase with my hair. I took the big buzz and shaved all my hair off like Britney almost 6 years ago in December. As my hair is getting some length to it, it’s honestly becoming a struggle for me. I’m in one of those awkward stages yes, my hair is always growing but it doesn’t seem to move past a certain point. Yes, my hair is thick but it doesn’t seem to move past a certain point. Yes, my hair is shiny but it doesn’t seem to move past a certain point. You see where this is going? Now that my hair is in protected in Senegalese twists for a while I decided to do some research on how I could possibly rectify my dilemma, pick up healthier hair care practices and of course retain all my length.

In walks Farida, that mane of hers and Belle Bar Organic. It all happened so fast! Once I started watching her video I couldn’t turn away. I spent that weekend just binge watching her videos, absorbing all the knowledge she so eloquently puts out. If you’re not familiar with Curly Proverbz then you must be living under a rock like I was because she’s honestly one of the best to ever do it. She fully understands her hair, what it needs, and has documented her journey, ups, downs and the in between. I directly relate to her earlier plight of not being able to grow her hair past a certain point because of a lack of moisture retention. She noticed that her hair progressed past her expectations when she began incorporating Ayurvedic herbs and oils to her routine. The proof is in the pudding, well her thick, luxurious mane that is.

I became very interested in a few of her practices using hair tea rinses being on of them. Again, prior to watching her videos my knowledge of Ayurvedic herbs was at a 2. I’m currently at a 5. I knew that I wanted to start incorporating some steps into my everyday routine but girl where was I going to get them from? Farida made it easy! C’mon on into my life Bell Family! She kept swearing by Belle Bar Organic and their hair tea rinses. I mean my girl was going so I had to pay attention. Wherever you are in the world, thank you Farida. Not only have you provided information I probably wouldn’t have found on my own, but for taking the time to put together such quality content. You deserve all the wonderful things coming your way!

Soooo, y’all are right in Brooklyn…how could I have possibly been sleepin’ like this?!

Prior to Farida and her flattering remarks of Belle Bar Organic I hadn’t heard of the company. I immediately began to dig and search for information on just what Belle Bar Organic was, who were the people behind it and did I really want to spend my coin on ‘em. They quickly found a place in my heart before the debit card was even out to be honest. Belle Bar Organic is a family run black owned business by a mother and her two daughters. (I never feel right calling somebody old enough to be my mom by their first name. Feels disrespectful? Just me? Never feels right,) Ms. Annette, Tianna and Solange Bell are straight outta Brooklyn. I had to do some sleuthing but I found some video footage from a pop-up shop event they had around Mother’s Day in Soho.

These ladies spent countless hours and money mixing and experimenting in the kitchen playing kitchenticians trying to find what worked perfectly for their personal needs when a lightbulb when off, what if there was a customizable beauty line that was completely natural, where you can choose ingredients to suit your individual needs? Hence this wonderful brainchild of theirs was born in 2016. You can customize your own face masks, hair masks and hair tea rinses with 100% natural, preservative free, fragrance free, vegan compatible dehydrated ingredients. The dehydrating process removes any traces of water from the ingredients leaving behind the concentrated nutrients and vitamins intact. They have over 100+ unique ingredients to choose from so you could honestly mix and match for days.

I got on there and got distracted, I completely forgot the whole reason I was there! To order Curly Proverbz hair tea rinse and her cassia hair gloss mix. I forgot to order both *insert side eye*. Of course I’m placing another order very soon, that’s a given but I mean that was the whole purpose of the endeavor. I did end up in the tea rinse section though. Prior to installing my Senegalese twists I noticed that my hair was doing quite a bit of shedding. I wasn’t losing hair by the clumps but I was noticing more shedding than I would prefer. When I saw their Anti-Shedding/Regenerating Tea it just seemed like the move.

Their Anti-Shedding/Regenerating Tea has ingredients that you can customize that can to aid in hair growth, boost moisture and strengthen the hair. All key characteristics I’m looking for. The staff makes the semi-intimidating ingredient selecting process easier by suggesting ingredients like green tea, saw palmetto, horsetail and lavender that all promote beneficial properties for your hair. As my four mix in ingredients I chose,

• Seaweed
• Fenugreek
• Horsetail
• Hibiscus

I’ve never put together a tea rinse of this capacity before but I knew that A) I wanted at least one ingredient to be something I was familiar with, B) I wanted some type of balance to my ingredients and C) I wanted a mix with ingredients that I would be cool with using as a leave-in not just a tea rinse. I’ve worked with horsetail extract before so I wasn’t completely shooting in the dark. I did my research on my ingredients and I was confident in my mixture. They have the option to chose between 6 rinses, 12 rinses and 24 rinses as a newbie I couldn’t just jump head first into 24 rinses so I opted to try the 6 rinses for $25 + $5.00 shipping. I was also able to choose either a free face mask or a hair mask up to $5! If you ask me shipping paid for itself.

I chose their Waikiki Restorative and Moisture Hair Mask the ingredients sounded so refreshing and appealing although their other were undoubtedly just as good. You can customize the full size however you choose but this sample contains,

• Coconut Milk
  
• Hibiscus Powder
  
• Aloe Vera Powder
• Avocado Oil
  
• Coconut Oil
  
• Shea Nut Oil
• Cactus
  
• Marshmallow Root

The truth right? I don’t plan to take my Senegalese twists out until the first week or so in September but this is first on my list of things to try. In the meantime I do plan on using this tea rinse on a daily basis to moisturize my hair. After conversing with a young lady from @bellebarorganic on IG prior to ordering she was telling me that she uses her rinse on a daily basis to moisturize so it’s safe to use in that way. Oil infusions have been my new thing, hence my last post, which is why I also asked her if I could infuse the tea into an oil. She wasn’t sure at the time but I still gave it a go as you will soon see.

Why’d you choose what you did son?

Again, I wanted some type of balance to my tea rinse so I figured I’d chose ingredients that targeted a specific matter then built from there. My first mix in was seaweed. Seaweed is one of the most nutritionally balanced plants on the planet as well as being the most abundant source of minerals in the plant kingdom because of the access to the ocean. According to Science Direct the minerals found in seaweed particularly calcium tower over the levels found in terrestrial vegetation. Like a sponge seaweed absorbs direct sunlight making it abundant in vitamin A, B, C, and E, and protective pigments. It’s an excellent hair food, the antioxidant rich components of omega-3 and omega-6 directly stimulate and strengthen the hair at the root encouraging hair growth. The Alginic acid or alginates found in seaweed have detoxifying capabilities that can help eliminate heavy metals on the scalp. Each unique seaweed has it’s own distinct property if you will, for example everyone’s favorite seaweed, nori which is commonly used for sushi is high in protein.

My second mix in ingredient is fenugreek. Although fenugreek or methi seeds is far from my favorite scent it’s pack with so many nutritional benefits for the hair it’s hard to turn a blind eye and not at least give it a try. Fenugreek has hormones in it that are bountiful in proteins, vitamins and minerals like sulfur and potassium aiding in the promotion of hair growth. One of the crucial reasons many experiencing thinning or hair loss gravitate to these wonder seeds is the Nicotinic Acid. Nicotinic acid goes by a few names niacin and vitamin B3 to name a couple. Nicotinic Acid not only stimulates hair growth it minimizes the amounts of cholesterol on the scalp. When too much cholesterol builds up on the scalp it can transforms into 5-Alpha Reductase. There have been direct correlations between 5-Alpha Reductase and androgenic alopecia, pattern baldness. A hormone called diosgenin is also present in the seeds which displays estrogen like qualities. Estrogen can be a wondrous hormone that aids in hair growth, which is why some pregnant women see exponential growth during pregnancy.

My third mix in horsetail. Horsetail extract has literally been around since prehistoric times dating as far back as the Paleozoic Era and could reach 90 feet tall. Many of those suffering from thinning and hair loss covet this member of the fern family for it’s surplus of silica. Silica or silicon is a trace mineral that not only helps strengthen blood vessels in turn improving circulation to your scalp but it can possibly help with sheen and the texture of your hair. Selenium is a natural occurring mineral found in the body, it helps your body to process iodine which is ideal for regulating hair growth. A deficiency is Selenium can result in slow, stunted hair growth. Guess what? Horsetail extract also contains Selenium and lots of it!

Lastly but by no means least my final mix in is hibiscus. I’ve wanted to work with hibiscus powder since Laila, Fusions of Cultures dropped her SheaBiscus Rainforest Deep Treatment years ago but never got around to ordering some. The time has finally come damn it! Hibiscus is an invaluable source of potassium, vitamin A, vitamin C, phosphorus, riboflavin, amino acids, calcium and a bunch of other nutrients that we couldn’t possibly get into full depth about in this one post. The petals and leaves contain a mucilage and plant derived proteins that help treat dandruff and hair loss. The carotene in hibiscus may help some who are in the premature stages of greying. I’ve found that some ladies enjoying adding hibiscus powder to the henna mixture not only for the amazing benefits but for the slight red hue they’ve noticed to their hair in the sunlight.

Let’s steep! I’M TOO HYPE!

As of right now I’ll only be using this as a daily moisturizer for my hair before sealing it with an oil. I also ran out of my vitamin E playing Mixtress so until I run out and grab some more I’ll only be making a small batch of tea and storing it in my fridge to extend it’s life.

Having an infusing cup already in my teapot and that detaches from the top makes this whole process pretty simple. If you don’t own a tea infuser Belle Bar Organic got you with their nifty muslin cloth bags to put your mix in and conveniently steep in a mug.

I steeped my mix in this fairly new Arizona Vapor Water overnight but next time I’ll try  some aloe vera juice and see how that works for my hair. Per their directions I didn’t need to steep overnight but I started late and got sleepy. I’ve been loving this and their other vapor water I posted on IG since I discovered them last month in my local convenience store. They’re .50 cents more than the regular Arizona making it $1.50 but it’s worth it for me for the contents inside and the size of the bottle.

After my tea was steeped and ready for use I transferred my mix into my empty spray bottle and called it a day! My mix smells a bit like curry to my nose due to the fenugreek but I’ll survive once I sealed my hair with my strawberry x basil oil that scent was completely  gone and my hair smells like scrawberries! As you can see I had some extra tea from that batch so I poured it back into the water bottle and I’m going to freeze it then thaw it out when I need a refill.

As fo’ my mustard oil infusion

I’m still new to the infusion game but YOU KNOW I had to try my hand at making an oil for this goodness here. I recently took a stroll through the aisle of the Patel Brothers, my local Indian grocery store to pick up some oils and Ayurvedic powders to kick off my journey. While I was there I couldn’t pass up on a bottle of mustard oil for $2.49.

I have fond, funky memories of mustard oil from my premature natural stages. Mustard oil or “Sarso Ka Tel” is a powerhouse to put that very mildly. It’s packed with zinc, iron, magnesium, vitamins A, D and K, beta-carotene, omega-3, omega-6 and that wondrous trace mineral selenium I spoke of previously. It’s also a formidable conditioner being that it naturally contains alpha fatty acids that work to condition the hair and scalp.

I gots my mix, I gots my oil and I gots my 13 oz jar from local dollar store. I’d say I’m ready to pour the oil in and let the magic happen.

​​After pouring the oil over the mix I gave it a stir with some chopsticks, a label and put the lid on it.

I’m going to let this goodness stew in a warm place and infuse for a bit and keep my fingers crossed that this is a winner.

I’m very happy with my purchase, yeeesss although I broke my no buy already I’m a work in progress. I’m still very happy with my purchase and I’ll definitely be trying my hand at a few of their other products. They’re unquestionably worth checking out there’s literally something for everyone. I mean, who doesn’t want to make a product specifically suited to their needs? I’ll definitely keep you updated on both how the moisturizer, mustard oil infusion and any other hair concoctions I come up with using this mixture.

Mad Mixtress! DIY Strawberry x Basil Hair Oil

Hello everyone!

You can just call me the Mad Mixtress from now on because your girl has been just making herbal infused oils like nobody’s business the past few days. A few things happened I watched this video on YouTube, got inspired then started to flip through my mental rolodex trying to recollect what I did back in the infancy stages of my hair journey that I don’t consistently do currently? If you said use oils on a frequent basis, you know me too well. Being that I’m actually trying to stick to my personal no buy challenge I’m not about to be running out to the store to grab a hair oil so the next best thing would be to do it myself!

Of course we all know I’m extra so I couldn’t just have some boring shit and decided to take a stroll through my own refrigerator and pantry before making any moves to the good ol’ supermarket. Great thing I did because I saw the strawberries and I saw the basil, it was a go. I know both of my main ingredients are packed with extremely beneficial vitamins and nutritional properties for hair care but my main concern was making it with actual fresh produce. In this case both my strawberries and basil a full of moisture, putting them straight into an oil would only cause it to go rancid and spoil very quickly. So I turned to the interweb to get my process started.

Let’s slice sum scrawberries

In most cases when you’re making an oil infusion it’s best to start with dried ingredients whether they be herbs, spices or fruits. They don’t aid in the process of spoilage and you have a longer shelf life with your products. To start off I knew that I needed to remove all the water from my produce before the fun part began. If you’ve got time on your hands and are far less impatient than I am you can slice up your strawberries and let nature run its course by drying them out on the own. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

I went ahead and laid some parchment paper over my baking sheet then sliced up 3 fairly large, bruised strawberries and 1 smaller also bruised one then laid them on my baking sheet. While I was at it I plucked some basil and laid them top down. When basil dries it curls upward laying them top down just makes the drying process a bit quicker I’ve found. I tried to space everything evenly apart so they wouldn’t touch. Especially the strawberries, as the dry out the get very sticky and can easily stick together causing unwanted problems.

I set the oven to 170 °F low and slow wins the race. I still want to keep the nutritional value to my ingredients. I’m not intending to cook them merely remove the moisture. My basil dried out in about 1 hour to 1.5. I was pleasantly surprised that really didn’t take long at all. 

The stems of the basil took the longest to dry out because as expected that’s where most of the moisture is. The strawberries however took a bit longer. After a little over 4 hours my strawberries were fully dried and I was wholeheartedly ready to get to the fun part, putting it all together.

I highly suggested either using exactly what you need for your recipe or making a full baking tray then freeze them and use them another time. I’ll probably do the latter while strawberries are still in season so I can refresh my oil with fresh ones as I use it. This is also the perfect time to dry out any of those bruised, unpleasant to look at fruits that taunt you. I’m quickly realizing there’s always a use for something!

Lemme tell you a lil sumthin’ bout scrawberries!

I often come across strawberry fruit oil or extract in a plethora of beauty products currently on my vanity but it often escapes me just how potent and beneficial it can be. As someone who’s suffered from a traumatic bald patch the size of Texas I really should’ve been up on the wonders of strawberries a few years ago. Baldness often happens because the hair has gone dormant during the regrowth phase for whatever reason. My bald patch has since grown back, but still if you walk up to me like “Hey Texas!” I’m out and I’m not looking back.

Back to the strawberries and how they’re beneficial to our hair, these ruby red beauties are packed with all the vitamins, fiber and antioxidants we should be intaking on daily basis to help improve the regulation of blood sugar level and aid in lowering cholesterol. Strawberries are an excellent source copper, manganese, phosphorus, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, folic acid, iodine and magnesium. One healthy serving of strawberries has more vitamin C in it than an orange! Folic acid in conjunction with vitamins B5 and B6 in particular are pivotal in preventing hair loss. Don’t have time to run out and buy a hair mask? Crush up some strawberries instead! Due to the potent antioxidant effects in strawberries they protect the cell membrane of the scalp enclosing it from contact with water. Acting as a moisturizer and preventing a parched scalp.

Let’s get into the high amounts of ellagic acid found in them. Ellagic acid is a natural polyphenol antioxidant found in numerous fruits, vegetables and nuts like grapes, blackberries, walnuts, cranberries, raspberries, pecans and of course strawberries. From research I’ve done on ellagic acid and androgenetic alopecia or pattern alopecia, the combination of ellagic acid, folic acid, vitamins B5 and B6 can delay the balding. Pattern baldness is very common affecting nearly three million men and women in the US per year. Although treatment can help along your journey there’s no real cure for it as of yet, it’s chronic and the hair loss can vary from person to person lasting for a few years or be a lifelong journey for some.

Although I’m personally using this as a hair oil if you decide to try your hands at it strawberries are just as amazing for your skin! I mentioned how rich in vitamin C but they’re also packed with salicylic acid, their own natural alpha hydroxy acids, and flavonoids that can be effective at clearing acne and reducing excess oils. I haven’t suffered from serious acne in years (knocks on wood) but I, like many others suffer with the aftermath of those years, hyperpigmentation. The ellagic acid and vitamin C combination can help to lighten hyperpigmentation scars as a result of UV rays. Vitamin C is involved in the production of collagen which can be great at reducing fine lines, wrinkles and minimizing blemishes.

I’m always looking for the next best acid or peel to try to rid myself of them but my scars laugh in the face of acid peels. Who knows strawberries just may come through and save the day?

It’s all about tha Tulsi!

I honestly had no idea how amazing basil is and the significance it holds for those of the Hindu religion. As I began my search for the scalp and skin care benefits of basil I quickly found myself learning a bit more about Hinduism. Basil, “Holy Basil” or Tulsi signifies “the incomparable one” and has been used for over 5,000 years in India. According to many sources that I’ve read a Hindu household isn’t considered complete if there isn’t a Tulsi planted somewhere around. Some families are blessed to have more than a dozen Tulsi plants in their garden forming a miniature basil forest.

They’re typically built in a specially designed structure which has images of deities engraved on all four sides with an alcove big enough for a small oil lamp to fit. Families religious worship day and night.

It’s quite compelling and appealing to educate yourself on the practice of cultures outside of your own, definitely check out a few articles I read during my research here and here.

Stepping aside from the religious significance of basil it’s chalked full of phenomenal nutritional properties to aid in hair growth. Hair growth is a naturally occurring process, in a relatively healthy person (I said relatively) you’re supposed to see about 1-2 inches of hair growth over the span of two months. Yes, yes girl it’s true everyone loses about one hundred strands of hair per day. However this can quickly increase if you’re suffering from the aforementioned pattern alopecia which can result in visible bald patches. By no means can I cape for you and your bald patch girl but increasing circulation to your scalp leads to stimulation of hair follicles and the production of new, healthy hair.

You can find a friend in basil, I mean it is a member of the mint family and they’re all about the tingle over there. Basil stimulates the circulatory system improving blood circulation in the hair follicles and strengthening hair against breakage. It’s rich in vitamin A, beta-carotene, and my favorite vitamin K which is crucial for preventing and reducing blood coagulation, improving bone mineralization and vascular health and elasticity. The antifungal and antibacterial properties provided by the essential oils like citronellol, eugenol, and limonene already present in basil makes for an effective natural remedy to hair shedding, itchiness, flaking and dandruff.

As for your skin basil oil doesn’t skimp in that department either. It’s rich in flavonoids and antioxidants like anthocyanins, vicenin and orientin that fight free radical damage and prevent fine lines. As an effective anti-aging agent it aids in cell regeneration while increasing the growth of cells in turn providing soft and supple skin. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities can work as a natural cleanser to unclog the pores in effect remove excess oil and dirt. For my  fellow eczema sufferers basil oil maybe be something some want to look into.

Basil oil has a unique acid called urusolic acid present in it, it acts as an antiseptic and may help soothe some of that incessant itching, inflammation and redness that can undoubtedly occur. I can’t possibly tell you about all the invaluable qualities about basil but I have found some credible sources in my research that you can read all about here and here.

Let’s put it all togetha!

Before starting this I knew that I preferred using the cold infusion/solar method instead of a heat infused oil. I’m sorry, but turning on a crockpot or stove during a heatwave sounds the furthest thing from appealing. Plus I can monitor my process overtime! For the cold infusion method I chose an olive oil blend for its resistance to oxidation and rancidity. Next time I think I’ll experiment with almond oil or maybe even grapeseed oil. I found my oil at our local everything store for $3.99.

After ensuring that my jar was absolutely clean and dry I began adding my strawberries, then my basil followed my my oil.

I stirred with a plastic fork to ensure there weren’t any air bubbles present then added some Jäson Vitamin E as my preservative to prolong my shelf life.

I genuinely had fun making this and allowing my creative juices to flow! I hope I was able to share some knowledge with you without sounding like I had peanuts for brains. I’ll leave this in my window sill for a few weeks to soak up the direct sunlight in between uses. I have another infused oil that I worked on that I’ll be sharing with you very soon and I’m always perusing Pinterest in my downtime for fun DIY ideas so I’ll definitely have more of them to add to my Mad Mixtress series.

Long awaited hello everyone! It’s been a little while since my last blog update but June was my birthday month, I turned 26  on the 2nd and if you’ve been keeping up with me on my IG account or live streams you know that I was shopping my narrow tail off. After all the shopping that I’ve done I decided to put myself on a major much needed “No Buy” challenge for a while and really work through what I already have and what I purchased this month. I didn’t want to get this post up until everything trickled in. I’m going to try to categorize everything, by store to consolidate everything.

June 2, 2017 it’s my birthday I can shop if I want to!

I almost missed my own birthday this year, almost being the operative here. Ken and Julie wouldn’t let me forget it! Birthdays have never really been special occasions for me, they come and they leave you a year older. This year however was VERY different not only did I actually get to spend my birthday with those that I love, but I was spoiled beyond my comprehension by both them and myself. 26 has definitely been a birthday to remember so far. I’m grateful, humbled, appreciative and floored by their generosity. Now before I get mushy and sentimental and shit let’s get into all the goodies.

Julie and Jo stocked me with all the sheet masks they could obviously get their hands on. I mean, clearly.

Julie and Jo completely floored and spoiled me with the respective birthday packages. I opened both packages up on my first ever live stream and took photos after which is why all the masks are sprawled out on the bed. The spread is just so lush I could honestly stare at the photo forever and never get tired. It’s really a beauty!

Julie blessed me with some full sized goodies as well. She’s ridiculously generous! The Polatam Deep Moist Cream was too rich and heavy for her skin but on my driftwood skin it works wonders.

I had the pleasure of receiving a sample of this in one of my swag bags from a Glow Recipe beauty class I attended and genuinely enjoyed the condition it left my skin in.

The cream uses distilled oak tree sap and over a dozen botanical extracts including thyme, eucalyptus, lavender, and anise to provide my skin with hydration as well as bit of a glow. In conjunction with ceramides and shea butter, I’m in heaven.

Jules also sent this Botanic Farm Black Soybean Milk Pudding Sleeping Pack. 

This definitely holds true to the pudding in the name. The texture is a pudding, gelatin borderline flan consistency. If I use too much my skin will be left feeling tacky and coated but it’s been a trial and error experience.

Lastly, but by no means least Jules sent the Ice Cooling Sherbet also by Botanic Farm. I haven’t tried this yet, but the texture is intriguing.

To me this is a thick hair gel like sherbet that has a strong floral scent to it. This is described as a moisture rich cream with sherbet like particles that instantly provide hydration and a cooling sensation.

I can’t say thank you enough ladies! You’ve spoiled me in a way that I still can’t truly fathom!

OMG RACHEL!!!!

Rachel and her husband swooped their asses in with some surprise birthday #happymail literally days before this is going to be posted to the blog. She told me she would be sending something for my birthday, but I wasn’t expecting all of this at all! I honestly couldn’t stop saying “OMG RACHEL!” as I tore through everything. For someone who didn’t know what to get me she hit every mark! Starting with the card  right on top.

It’s a pop up card! You didn’t miss a thing I celebrated all month long!

Clearly she’s a woman after my heart! She blessed us with the decants of a true saint! I have to say us because Ken, his Dad and myself ran through that bag of Lifesavers Gummies during a movie night. His father  genuinely enjoyed the exotic flavors in the bag like Fuji apple and Asian pear. It made me feel good to know that it was “our” friend Rachel, as Ken’s Dad now  calls her, who generously provided us with the snacks we were smacking on.

She also sent these new limited edition  Haribo Gold Bears in Watermelon flavor. We didn’t get a chance to run through these, after Calvin made his ass to planet Earth in Life we all needed a breather.

These Goodnessknows bars are very much up Ken’s alley. He doesn’t enjoy sweet things nearly as much as I do. My sweet tooth really is off the charts. She sent Cranberry, Almond and Dark Chocolate as well as Peach & Cherry, Almond and Dark Chocolate.

Surprisingly, for me of course, I am officially becoming a candle person. I find myself walking through the aisles of TJ Maxx, Marshall’s and the like just sniffing candles. It’s like Rachel just knew I recently finished burning two candles!

She’s either psychic or just that damn good. I didn’t care for the Yankee Candle much. As the wick got lower the rim got messier. If that makes sense? The rim was covered in soot that gets on your hand when you reach in to light the wick.

It literally warms my cold little black heart to see this Glade Crafted Soy Candle. I didn’t even know Glade had an Atmosphere Collection. I haven’t even lit it yet and I’m already getting the wonderful Jasmine fragrance wafting around the room.

This blend is so calming, Jasmine, lady apples, sweetheart rose petals over a base of cedarwood. I’ll definitely have to keep my eyes open for this collection next time I visit Target.

Coming through with the Lisa Frank throwback, I see you! Definitely had a full moment when I saw all the unicorns!

Again my makeup skills are null and void but I attempt. Bless my heart.

This fluffy baby is my new highlighter brush! I don’t have one, I barely wear makeup as is so I normally get away with dabbing some on with my finger when I do wear it. It’s quite conventional to actually have a brush for it and it’s super cute!

No birthday package would be complete without sheet masks and Rachel didn’t disappoint! I’ve been spying some of these beauties on IG  and I can’t believe she sent them to me!

My experiences with modeling cups have been hit or miss thus far, but fun nonetheless. I never seem to get the liquid ratio right. I prefer to use a watery toner that I didn’t care for instead of water. Hopefully I can get the liquid right this go around.

Thank you for thinking of me when you went to the Glow Recipe Studio Uptown. Again, don’t know how you knew but I really wanted to try the new Id. Az masks. I can’t wait to try the Skin Advice Wrinkle Mask. I saw them on their site and had my eyes on them. I also wanted to try the Art:Cell Aurora Pearl Mask Pack and FrienVita Aqua Gold Glow Mask. I’ve seen those gorgeous masks in past Facetory boxes. A skincare comrade of mine Joelle tried the Art:Cell mask and gave it a positive  review so I have really high hopes for it.

This advanced ass Oozoo Power Capsule Mask is also bound to be a fun time! The technology used to create Oozoo masks always fascinates me. It’s consistently innovative. This mask features a power capsule button containing moisturizing ingredients that you push to activate and mix with the contents of the actual mask  to rectify dry, dull skin.

Rachel did you find this Dr. La by Skintalk V – Tok Mask at the Glow Studio as well? I’ve never seen it before I’ll definitely be looking for some videos. It’s a two part mask, the first being an ampoule containing 10 active multivitamins, allantoin and centella asiatica. You pour the active ingredients over the bone dry mask and let the magic happen! She also blessed me with some samples from the Glow Studio that I’ll include in the samples portion of the post.

Rachel you’ve genuinely blessed me with a bunch of products that I’ll use and treasure.  I appreciate the generosity of both you and your husband. I honestly don’t know how to say thank you enough without sounding redundant. I really do appreciate the both of you! I’ll say thank you a million times if I have too.

Sephora had a free gift waiting for me! Of course I went there first!

Of course we’re going to start with the place all the beauty insiders go during their birthday month, Sephora. I mean, it doesn’t take rocket science? I visited Sephora on at LEAST 4 different occasions this month and left a little happier on the inside each time. The first time I went I did some shopping at the 34th St. location with my girl Kris. All the ladies that were invited to the Frudia launch party were invited to a video shoot at WeWorks! I’ve never been apart of a video shoot before so you know I was nervous. It went well and I can’t wait to see the final results.

When we got to Sephora I knew I wanted to try the Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment so I was on the hunt for it first. I’ve become quite the Briogeo fan over the past year or so. Their overnight gel to oil treatment is damn near holy grail for me. When I saw this new scalp treatment on Sephora’s site I was here for it especially since I recently finished the overnight treatment.

This is a binchotan charcoal infused scalp treatment that’s supposed to detoxify, soothe and balance the scalp for maximum scalp health. This also contains spearmint and peppermint oils to reduce unwanted itchiness you may feel on the scalp. Tea tree oil is often coveted by many for it’s healing and antiseptic properties in collaboration with witch hazel water, sodium hyaluronate and aloe excess oil production on the scalp is normalized, balanced and hydrated. Live streams are a VERY new thing for me, I’ve only done two but I find them to be very enjoyable and engaging, I did discuss this in my second live stream and briefly in my recap the following day.

I enjoy this a lot which is why the $32 price tag perturbs me. Although this scalp treatment looks thick and oily in the bottle it left behind a watery feeling when I applied it, it was almost runny. When I massaged it into my scalp the charcoal activated and I felt a surprisingly pleasing warming sensation on my scalp. I absolutely love this, but the ingredients list is clear, concise and straightforward, meaning I feel like I can DIY this without too much headache. I feel like I had to use too much to get the desired results.

I’m absolutely obsessed with Sephora Favorites sets. The value, the variety of products, the fact that I probably wouldn’t be able to try all these individual items separately because they’re all quite pricey are all reasons why I find myself gravitating towards Sephora Favorites sets when they’re accessible. Last year I purchased the Ultimate Hair, Skin and Body Travel Set and this year I also received the new version of that set and the Hair Saviors Set from Ken when we did some shopping in Union Square.

This year’s Ultimate Hair, Skin and Body Travel set has been full of hits, get this out my damn face and disasters! This set comes with twelve deluxe travel sized products.

• Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. I purchased the travel set during last year’s VIB sale, I’ve received a few curious questions about my feelings on this and I enjoy this. The star ingredient of this cream is Guaraná Seed Extract, it contains 5x the amount of caffeine found in coffee. It’s supposed to help increase the natural flow of circulation, boost energy and smooth the skin. In conjunction with Cupuaçu Butter, Açaí Oil, Brazilian Nut Seed Oil, and Carrot Seed Oil makes for a fabulous moisturizing treat for my alligator skin. I’m cautious because this has a noticeable yet very pleasing fragrance and shimmer in it. This eczema patch on the back on my knee is not with the glitter games. I’ve mainly relied on this during the colder months because it’s so rich, but it’s wonderful to have a deluxe travel size!

• Drybar Triple Sec 3-in-1. I honestly don’t care what this does because it smells so good! Triple Sec is supposed to be an instant volumizing and texture refresher spray. Volume isn’t an issue for me, but it is always nice to have a refresher spray. I’ve never tried Drybar, but @foodie_looks purchased a trio during her Sephora endeavors and I became curious. I’m happy this came in the set because I probably wouldn’t have tried it individually.

• Supergoop! Everyday Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50. I love this, it’s been in my purse on a daily basis since I got it, I talked about this in my live stream and I recapped this the following day on my feed. Aside from the ever present traditional sunscreen scent this is the business. It sinks into my skin well, there’s no white cast on my skin and for some reason Ken thought I had on makeup after I applied this because it instantly hydrated my skin and made a noticeable difference. Being that this does have a high SPF level it will leave behind a greasy feel if I use too much so I definitely keep that in mind when applying.

• Caudalíe Beauty Elixir. You can just go ahead and keep this. I’ve discussed this in my live stream and recap. I didn’t care for this at it.

• Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. This was last year’s birthday gift and it also found it’s way into a few Sephora favorites sets in the past. This is described as a bestselling “do it all” cleanser that didn’t do much for me.

• Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil. This will definitely come in handy after using anyone of the strong acid peels I purchased.

• Verb Hydrating Shampoo + Conditioner. I have hopes that the shampoo and conditioner duo perform well, I mean it’s pretty straightforward on what they’re supposed to do. This is supposed to be a mild formula that’s suitable for all hair types including those with color treated hair. I’ve been a B5 feign as of late so I’m happy to see it so high up on the ingredients list. This also contains hydrolyzed quinoa protein and hydrolyzed vegetable keratin protein this should condition and smooth the hair while leaving it noticeably strong, but pliable. Sunflower seed extract provides a natural UV barrier while guarding the strands from dryness, brassiness, and color fading.

• Lavanila Sport Luxe Deodorant. *SIGH* I was hoping this didn’t come in the travel set again this year. Technically, it didn’t. Last year’s set came with the original formula of this deodorant and I genuinely couldn’t stand it whenever I had the displeasure of using it. It was way too light and didn’t hold me at all. Walked around with BO pits for a day! I’m not wit it! I genuinely hope this performs far better than the originally especially since this is designed to provide high performance defense and nourishment. It was created for life in motion.

• Their proprietary SmartSport Technology blends antibacterial, antimicrobial, and nourishing actives while sage leaf extract, tea tree oil, rosemary extract and organic baking soda break down sweat molecules to deliver all natural odor protection. The scent on this is described as a crisp vanilla breeze blends with white jasmine with watery honeydew, yeah girl all that but my nose is picking up Tide so there’s that.

• Sunday Riley Luna Night Sleeping Oil. Still so upset this tube completely shattered in the travel bag, but this is clearly my disaster! I didn’t even get a chance to use it yet! Just tragic.

• Clinic Pep-Start HydroBlur Moisturizer. This is described as a lightweight moisturizer, but when I swatched this on the back of my hand it felt awfully thick and very rich. It’s a oil free moisturizer that’s supposed to instantly blur imperfections, leave you with all day hydration and provide long lasting oil control for up to eight hours . As thick as this is, it should! This is a non-acnegenic formula so all should be good in the hood with the thickness. Right?

• Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm. Crys, you were right! I absolutely love this! It’s thick, it’s rich, it’s moisturizing, the full size at Sephora is too damn expensive. I really do love this eye balm although it applies to my under eyes very much like a cream. Much like other Algenist products this contains alguronic acid to minimize the appearance of fine line and wrinkles but it’s also combined with shea butter, vitamin C, caffeine extract, cucumber extract and aloe to help hydrate, recharge and rejuvenate the eye area. While candle shopping at TJ Maxx I came across a wide range of Algenist products on their shelves. Do take and stroll through an aisle near you. Chi said she noticed some stinging under her eyes when she used it, but fortunately for me I’ve noticed no such results and I’m thankful because I really do enjoy this.

This set was $40 at Sephora and well worth the value for me.

The second Sephora Favorites set I received for my birthday was the Summer Hair Saviors set for $38. This is a twelve piece set full of some gems if I do say so myself.

• The first item I didn’t know I kinda liked until I tried it would have to be the InvisiBobble Traceless Hair Rings. I always thought they were pointless when I saw them in the “On The Fly” section while waiting to checking out at Sephora. You only get three in a set, but they’re quite stretchy so I managed with what I had. If you have thick, coily hair as I do you might get some tangling trying to get the hang of these.

• Ouai Dry Shampoo Foam. I’ve already read the mixed reviews on Sephora’s site and I’m nervous. I haven’t tried many dry shampoos to begin with so add in a foam and we just have an anxiety party don’t we? 

• This is supposed to be a quick drying waterless cleansing foam that removes oil, excess product and build up. I’m not sure it’s going to do all of that, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed that Ouai will come through with the win again. It’s very lightweight, airy mousse. I absolutely love their Curl Conditioner so I’m genuinely hoping this can find a home during my protective styling days approaching.

• Moroccan Oil Treatment. I’m excited that I was finally able to try this treatment oil. It’s been floating all over YouTube for years. I’ve wanted try it for a while but never got around to spending the money for the full size. This is a thick, viscous treatment oil that smells wonderful! My hair felt soft and smelled great for days.

• Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt. This has huge sea salt pieces in it that never fully emulsify. This is a creamy cleanser that melts down when water comes into contact with it. It leaves behind a potent floral scent that almost gave me a headache.

• The shampoo was a bit drying so I didn’t hesitate to slap on the deep conditioner. I still can’t fathom why this deluxe travel size is $19 by itself but I guess girl.

• IGK Rich Kid Coconut Oil Gel. Surprisingly I enjoy this. I’m not a gel type of girl per say but this worked well for me. This thick, shimmery, sticky gel was moisturizing and provided me with a soft, defined hold. 

• It heavily resembles Elmer’s glue but I kept the faith alive and it wasn’t bad at all. I can’t say I’m running to get the full size but the sample allotted me with enough product for two styling sessions. I can deal.

• Verb Ghost Oil. I purchased the full size during the VIB sale last year and I wasn’t too crazy about it. I reviewed it during my #hairweek.

 

• DevaCurl Wave Maker Touchable Texture Whip. This was a creamy, rich leave in that left my hair soft and moisturized. My coils weren’t very defined but the moisture was present for days.

• Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask. I have a few samples of this waiting for me in my stash because I really enjoy this mask. My hair drinks up this deep conditioner no matter when I slap it on. This is stuffed with 95% plant derived natural extracts and a blend of nourishing nutrients like vitamin B, rosehip oil, argan oil, and silk to transform dry, damaged hair.

• Living Proof Perfect Hair Day In-Shower Styler. I love a good in-shower product. They cut down time immensely. This is supposed to rid the hair of excess products and enhance natural waves as the hair dries.

• Alterna Caviar CC Cream for Hair 10-in-1 Complete Correction. This multitasking cream delivers ten benefits in one step. It’s supposed to provide moisture, shine, softness, smoothness, manageability, strength, anti-breakage, UV protection, heat protection and a light hold. My Auntie Yumsy loves herself some Alterna so I have high hopes.

• Bumble and Bumble BB. Don’t Blow It Fine Hair Styler. Although my hair is thick and dense my strands are fine. They can easily be weighed down by heavy creams leaving me with limp, undefined coils. Not cute. I’m excited to try this lightweight texture enhancing styling cream. It’s supposed to give an air dried, blowout look without heat or hassle. This was the only item I couldn’t put my hands on while editing so I turned to Madam Google images for some help before I gave myself a headache.

• Klorane Sun Lightening Spray with Chamomile and Honey. I’m not a blonde so I didn’t notice any of the natural highlighting properties chamomile extract provides but this worked well as a hydrating leave in spray to refresh a braid out. For some reason this would foam up like it had soap in it but it didn’t have an effect on the final results.

This very hyped Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask was why I found myself at the Union Square location in the first place. 

At the time I got my grubby paws on it, it was completely sold out online but I struck gold when I was able to find it at that location. I was so excited to gets my hands on it but now I don’t know if I care for it too much. The consistency is that of jello and I find myself doing the hot potato when trying to keep it on the spatula.

My biggest gripe with this sleeping mask is that it applies like a peeling gel would. As soon as I apply this to my skin it begins to roll up and peel within seconds. I never get the full experience because it keeps peeling everytime I try to pat it into my skin. This jar is packed with such a quality ingredients blend and I want them on my face! Watermelon fruit extract, glycolic acid, lactic acid, cabbage leaf extract, peony root extract, seaweed extract, pumpkin fruit extract and banana fruit extract.

I initially thought it was the product combination I was using at the time but I switched it up in hopes of avoiding the peeling, it happened again. After using this a few times I came to the conclusion that it’s not me it’s the actual product. This is quite temperamental but eventually I’ll get the correct product combination for my skin down pact.

On my final trip to Sephora I purchased the Origins Super Spot Remover because I had a persistent breakout. I was a bit extra using the Iope soft peeling gel that Julie sent me in my birthday bundle of joy! I used it continually since I got it because it’s so gentle and I saw noticeable results every time. The peeling gel gradually pulled gunk and grime out my skin and brought a blemish to the surface. I’m trying to be a good egg and break my nasty habit of popping pimples causing unnecessary scarring and hyperpigmentation.

The star of this show is salicylic acid which is why I purchased, I wanted a spot treatment to really dry out blemishes and fine bumps mainly overnight. Myrtle leaf water, bitter orange flower, chamomile flower extract, ginger root oil, apple fruit extract and barley extract all work collaboratively with salicylic acid to help dry out small to medium blemish. I’ll know if it’s the real deal when I have a hormonal breakout. For now it’s been a good quick problem solved for me. I enjoy that I’m able to use this day or night because it dries on my skin like a clear band-aid. This small, itty bitty bottle was $16 but given the fact that I apply with a q-tip to dab it on this investment will last for quite sometime.

My final Sephora purchase and complete splurge on myself is the Drunk Elephant T. L. C. Sukari Babyfacial 25% AHA + 2% BHA. After conversing with Joelle and Heather who swear by this treatment, doing my own research and adjusting my routines to suit such high acids for the first time I took the plunge and rationalized it as a birthday splurge. $80 for anything is an investment!

This facial is a super packed 25% acid blend of glycolic, tartaric, lactic, citric, and salicylic acids all working overtime to exfoliate surface dead skin, brighten the skin’s appearance, and unclogging build up inside the pore lining where the problem actually persists. I was really drawn to this for the pumpkin ferment extract, it’s a gentle exfoliant rich in fatty acids and antioxidant components. I was also very intrigued by the chickpea flour used in this to absorb excess oils without overdrying the skin since this is such a strong treatment. This treatment comes in an airtight pump bottle to preserve the the ingredients for the environment and has an ideal PH level of 3.5 to 3.6.

Again, this is strong and it’s suggested that this is only used once a week. I’ve decided to use this once a week for the next four weeks before alternating it with another treatment we’ll get to in a bit. I’m one week in and so far so good! I haven’t had any adverse results.

I kept the timer on my phone set and at the ready because I was so worried about leaving it on for too long and causing burning. We’ve all seen the acid horror stories! I had my timer set for 20 minutes not a minute more.

When I initially applied I immediately felt a strong noticeable stinging on my chin and cheeks, but after 2 minutes it completely subsided and the rest of my experience was that of any other wash-off mask. When I washed it off I immediately noticed brighter smoother skin that looked amazing for days after.

I didn’t notice too much of a change in terms past pigmentation scars on my cheeks, but it was my first go around so I have set my expectations high for this given the $80 tag.

This treatment came with a deluxe travel sample of the Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil to apply to the skin after using the treatment.

Unexpected wins!

When I received an email about the Soko Glam pop up shop in Bloomingdales I added it to my planner of this to do and whipped my wishlist out. When I got there it was super crowded and full of smiling faces to see the very gorgeous Charlotte Cho. I didn’t stay long for the meet and greet because I just don’t do well in crowded setting, but I did purchase the Neogen Cereal Real Fresh Foam Cleanser. I’ve had this on my list for years, but never got around to trying it for one reason or another.

When I had the opportunity to actually get my grubby paws on it I couldn’t leave empty handed. I’ve used this continuously since I purchased it. This eye catching cleanser contains fermented rice seeds and rice seed extract to brighten and moisturize the skin.

I was drawn to this particular cleanser instead of the other eye catching foam cleansers by Neogen because it’s suited for all skin types, but specifically for those with sensitive skin. The foam is so light and airy it’s almost like whipped cream for my face. It’s so lush! The cleanser removes any dirt and grime from my face without completely stripping my skin of all it’s natural oils.

I also purchased the Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Sheet Mask.

I love and rely on the soothing cream now that the weather is changing so I couldn’t help but grab one of these before checking out. It was $2!

The fit was on the larger in the forehead area than anywhere else and I’m not a huge fan of eye flaps on a mask I just tucked them under during use. The results were favorable  though. The mask had a nice essence to material ratio and my skin was left moisturized without feeling coated. For the price I’d repurchase.

I had 10% off all month! Of course I went back twice!

The first time I went to oo35mm this month was after I visited the Soko Glam pop up shop. I mean, it just made sense I was in Soho and Chinatown is literally a stone’s throw away. While I was in the area I really wanted to purchase something from The Ordinary particularly their AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution. It is extremely intimidating to look at, but the acid junkie in me couldn’t pass it up.

I really want to compare the results and overall product to the DE Babyfacial. This product was originally $8.99 but as a member of their rewards program I got 10% off for my birthday month so this came out to $8.81! $80 and $8.81 is a drastic difference so I’m really excited to try this out after my four weeks of DE.

​The two peels on the surface are very similar but of course have their own unique components. The acids in this one are stronger but the acid blend is the same it contains glycolic, lactic, tartaric, citric and salicylic acid. Also like the DE the PH level is between 3.5-3.7.

The intimidating peppery red color can be attributed to Tasmanian pepperberry which has found it’s way into a few of their other The Ordinary products. Working conjunctively with vitamin B5, black carrot extract, aloe vera leaf water and hyaluronic acid this is setting up to be another super packed exfoliating treatment that I’m clearly excited about.

My second visit was after I stopped by the Glossier Showroom on Canal St. They’re literally 3 blocks apart! Of course I had to stop by! The second time I went back I had a better idea of what else I wanted to purchase because I actually had my wish list in hand so I stayed on track. I knew for a fact that I wanted to try something from Manyo Factory after having positive experiences with sheet mask and samples. I decided to try the Active Refresh Herb Peel.

I put it on my list shortly after it launched on their site then briefly conversed with Amy during my live stream about it and she vouched for it. Once I got to the store and got a chance to play with it in the flesh I decided to bring it home with me.

This green gommage peeling gel visibly rolls and sweeps away dead skin while massaging into the skin. Herbs and fermented rice extract effectively peel and reveal a rejuvenated, smooth complexion without irritating, drying or causing any unnecessary stress to the skin.

I couldn’t pass this up when I saw it honestly. It just looked like a fun time! I purchased this 23 Years Old Air-Laynic Pore Mask. This anti-aging pore mask uses air therapy to deliver CO2 deep within the skin to cleanse and tighten pores.

I saw this fairly new CosRx One Step Moisture Up Kit on Kultfinds’ website about a month ago but I couldn’t bring myself to order one so I’m happy that oo35mm has both of the new CosRX three step kits. This set comes with the,

• One Step Moisture Pad
  
• Holy Moly Snail Mask

The final mask I purchased from there is the new Merbliss Nurse Healing Intense Soothing Gauze Seal Mask. Niacinamide is the third ingredient in this because I don’t want to cause any unnecessary flushing to my skin mixing it with the acids or vitamin C. I thoroughly enjoyed their wedding dress mask so I really have high hopes for this as well.

Bring on the glow up Glossier!

I was so excited when I discovered the Glossier Showroom albeit, it was pouring buckets outside when I found it I was excited nonetheless. The showroom is very minimalist but chic. Entering the penthouse is like stepping into a whole other world. The first time visited I decided to purchase the Super Glow Vitamin C + Magnesium Serum.

Surprisingly, for me at least, I didn’t have or use a vitamin C serum during my morning routine. Given the recent adjustments to my routine I want all the sun protection I can get.

​I decided to try this because it’s super concentrated (no pun intended) but very lightweight and watery. It sinks in within seconds of patting into my skin and my skin is left noticeably brighter. The watery, non-oily feel to this doesn’t interfere with the products I have already been using in the morning. If anything it compliments everything. It’s very flexible and I enjoy it.

After leaving the Showroom I felt like I played with everything and tried a few products that I genuinely enjoyed. I enjoyed them so much that I placed a few orders online and went back after the orders online!

I’m absolutely OBSESSED with these pink ziplock bags that come with every order whether you stop by the showroom or order online. They’re genius! They have bubble wrap inside making these an obvious necessity now when I travel anywhere.

The first online order was for the Super Bounce Hyaluronic Acid + B5 Serum. Much like the glow serum this has a lightweight, watery feel to it but it’s PACKED with moisture.

​It’s a lot thicker in consistency than the Super Glow and felt really nice on my skin after using the DE facial. I instantly felt a calming, cooling sensation. Even after using the moisturizing moon mask there was a noticeable difference in the moisture and the texture of my skin. Although I use one serum in the morning and the other at night the Super Bounce is quickly becoming my favorite.

When I purchased this I thought I ordered it in the duo, but of course I didn’t. I’m thankful the Showroom is so accessible to me because I was able to hop on the train and grab the other half. I ordered this smoothie for my face the Mega Greens Galaxy Pack online.

If you know me, you know I absolutely love a good mud pack so this really should come as no surprise. I was attracted to this mainly for the ingredients packed into this mask for example parsley, spinach, açaí berry, bitter orange peel oil, billberry and aronia.

It’s suggested that you follow up with the Moisturizing Moon Mask. As the name would suggests this moisturizing mask helps to moisturize the skin and even out the complexion after the Mega Greens.

This contains lemon oil, plant based squalane and good ol’ hyaluronic acid to deliver deep results. I’m looking for a moisturizing alternative to my trusted Laneige multiberry yogurt mask so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will do the trick.

My final Glossier order has been one that I couldn’t stop thinking about. I kept putting it off but after actually trying it and playing with it I just couldn’t leave it alone. The Invisible Shield SPF 35 is all Evelyn and Nikki from NaturallyCurly fault and in sticking to that.

It has just been taunting me but I’m happy I took the leap. The low SPF initially deterred me from making the purchase from jump.

After watching a bunch of videos (mainly Amy Serrano) and reading an informative article on Into The Gloss all about this product I felt more comfortable with committing to the purchase.

Although the SPF seems low it’s perfectly on par with the skin’s needs on an everyday basis. For example when visiting the beach or an amusement park traditionally you’re supposed to use a sunscreen with higher SPF levels due to the direct sun exposure all day. Being that the SPF is so high it’s being absorbed into the skin small increments, like a gradual build up.

At an SPF of 35 it’s ideally suited for an daily SPF, it contains protection against UVA/UVB rays as well as environmental pollution like smog and carbon monoxide. If you ride punkass MTA like I do you definitely hit a jig in your seat after that one. In addition to the daily sun protection that this provides the ingredients selected were consciously chosen vitamin P, vitamin E, broccoli seed extract, and aloe leaf extract to neutralize free radicals already present in the skin. The actual actives present in this sunscreen are avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate. They chose to use these three chemical fillers to truly preserve the integrity of the ingredients, provide a flawless watery feel and finish.

What pushed this over the edge for me was the encapsulated gel formula. Glossier pulled out all the stops for this! Essentially when this is pumped out tiny microcapsules burst when they come into contact with the skin distributing that potent formula. The watery feel is the linchpin. The lightweight consistency affords for buildability throughout the day if I should need extra coverage. And I mean, aesthetically, c’mon.

Manga fo’ dayz!

Ken completely spoiled me rotten this whole month especially with all this manga! I picked out a bunch of titles and he paid for them all. I definitely found a new favorite in the bunch and already purchased the follow up! I’m absolutely obsessed with I Am Hero by Kengo Hanazawa.

The first volume in the omnibus was slow, but once it picked up there was no slowing down. The story follows Hideo Suzuki, a 35 year old assistant manga artist. He’s clearly down on his luck and at his wits end with his career but he tirelessly goes to work day in and day out. His pride and joy is his dysfunctional, strained relationship with his supportive (when sober) girlfriend Tetsuko, Tekko for short.

Everything goes left at the top half of the second volume when Suzuki goes to visit Tetsuko after they have a failing out. He decides to go over to her home after working overnight at the studio in an honest effort to make up with his lady. Unfortunately for him SHE’S A DAMN ZOMBIE!

I don’t know how or what caused this abrupt change yet, but she’s a zombie! I’m still so shocked and sad but the very sudden event.  The book ends with Hideo barely making it out of his small town on a train headed only God knows. He thinks he can breath and process everything he’s just seen and done until he looks up,

Oh! Hello old friend miss me?

Before he can become zombie food however he has a crucial item in his aresenal. Really the only thing in his aresenal at this point, a gun. Apparently very few people in Tokyo actually own guns  so given the current predicament he’s on of the lucky ones. He just doesn’t remember he had it strapped on his back the entire time until the very last page *face palm*!

This is just full of plot twist after plot twist and it’s only the first omnibus. We got this from Forbidden Planet because the Strand didn’t have it when we went.

I went back to the Strand a week or so after my birthday and purchased the second omnibus after leaving Sephora.

While at Forbidden Planet I also decided to  final pickup the first volume of Hunter x Hunter by Yoshihiro Togashi.

I absolutely loved both the ‘99-01 arc and the ‘11 arc. It’s definitely up there in my favorites. Gon’s prideful fighting spirit and Killua’s constant questions of self resonate with me. It just made sense to finally give the manga a try.

Since the Strand, my favorite bookstore in da world is right next door I had to stop in for my birthday. After raiding through the clearance box we were able to find volumes three, four and five of Death Note written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata.

I’m so happy I was FINALLY able to get my hands on these volumes especially all at once and for a steal. I’ve been raiding that bin for a few months hoping to catch any volume.

The final omnibus I got from the Strand, again should be no surprise at this point because I’m absolutely enthralled with this series. I picked up the Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service Omnibus 3 written by Eiji Otsuka and illustrated by Housui Yamazaki.

I’m currently in the process of reading this, but things are definitely taking a turn. Unlike the first six volumes this one is providing a lot more insight into each character in story and deeper character development of Karatsu and Yaichi.

My mom and her swapping endeavors, I tell ya! While she was swapping she came across the graphic memoir by Roz Chast, Can’t we please talk about something more PLEASANT? She thought it was up my alley and she was right.

I attended my community center’s first Saturday event and had a blast. While I was there I won two $10 Amazon gift cards! Go me! I decided to finally get the next Terra Formars volume. I used my gift card to get volume 6 on Amazon for $6.76. The story by Yu Sasuga and the art by Ken-Ichi Tachibana It was listed as used but it really is like new!

I feel like it took FOREVER to arrive though.

If you know even an inkling about me you know that I quite enjoy coloring. It’s an amazing stress reliever, I’m also a pretty bad anxiety sufferer. When I’m going through changes in my life, as I currently am, I find that I pick up my coloring books more often to clear my head. My pencils, a detailed coloring page and my beats pill are enough to sooth my mind for a few hours. Ken’s Dad completely caught me off guard with this phenomenal coloring book, The Book of Beasts by Sterling Books.

I’m honestly going to be busy for MONTHS trying to pay attention to all the little intricacies on each page.  This compendium of mythical monsters, fearsome beasts and fantastical creatures to color and discover. The coloring book embarks on a time consuming journey across ancient lands and civilizations, through earth, wind, water and fire.

He said he found this in the clearance section of Barnes and Noble, 75% off! The original price was $19.95. Look at him!

Bout damn time!

I am THEE worst. I haven’t changed my Clarisonic brush head since I got it in 2015. In my defense, I don’t use it anywhere near as much as I thought I would, but still not changing the fact that I have definitely earned myself a hand slap. I’m going to be frank I didn’t want to pay the full $27 for the radiance brush head I wanted to try from Sephora. I’m sorry, but not really.
After perusing through Amazon streets I came across dupe Clarisonic brush heads!

You see, somebody was smiling down on me damn it! I found the dupe radiance brush head set for $11.99 that gets the job done all the same. Two brush heads for $11.99? Yes, yes please.

I’ve used the brush head a few times since it’s arrived and it definitely takes a bit of breaking in before it could even be considered to the actual radiance brush head. The brush head fits on my Clarisonic perfectly, no wiggling or issues with it vibrating and turning correctly. The brush is just really stiff. The first time I tried using it I had to work it in the palm of my hand before using it on my face because it felt too scratchy. I’m five uses in and the brush is finally to my liking.

I ordered this Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50+/PA ++++ on Amazon back in May but it came from Japan so it took sometime before it arrived. Thankfully for me it arrived around my birthday. I have been hooked on this since it arrived.

I’ve been alternating it with the Supergoop! Sunscreen. This is a lightweight formula and as the name implies it’s watery. It’s sinks in quickly without white cast left behind. This has a citrus meets rubbing alcohol fragrance that I could do without but this does what I need it to do so I won’t give it too much. I’ve talked about this in my live stream and recap.

My samples weekends have suddenly got an influx of new products to test and try. Not only did Jules bless me with a BUNCH of samples and deluxe samples but I also came into a bunch of free samples during my shopping excursions.

I honestly feel so blessed, appreciative and wholeheartedly ready for my no buy over the next few months. I’m in a frustrating space, but trying to work through these growing pains and keep my sanity in tact at the same time. I thank everyone for all your encouraging words and continued support. It’s been a whirlwind week for me! I’ve had some time to float on a cloud just reveling in my blessings, but now it’s back to reality, time to get these blog posts done! I had the humbling pleasure of being invited to Frudia’s US Launch Party, I attended The Mane Choice’s Hue Beauty & Natural Hair Affair II, I received some surprise mail from One O Seven AND I purchased some new manga from the Strand! We’ve got A LOT of ground to cover here with little time to waste.

​I’m blessed. Let’s just start right there. I’m blessed and humbled to say that I had the pleasure of being one of the handpicked beauty bloggers that attended Frudia’s US Launch Party! There was a small group of us NYC beauty bloggers that were invited by Lara Casse from Frudia social media and marketing team.

​ I’m so happy to say all the bloggers that attended were beautiful familiar faces. I’m a big fan of each blogger and I’ll definitely link their accounts so you can see what I’m talking about.

I was able to play around with and test out the full range of products that will be released in CVS, they were amazing! True shit, each product had a unique quality about it. There will be four different varieties available pomegranate, green grape, blueberry and citrus.

I unknowingly began raving about my affinity for the pomegranate line to Youngdon Kim. I mean I was just going on about it. The nutri-moisturizing cream is so rich, but lightweight and sinks in quickly. I kept finding my way to the pomegranate display.

When I had the opportunity to speak with Alicia Yoon, CEO of Peach & Lily and she told me not only does she love it, but her eczema loves it as well I fell even more in love with it. Oh who is Mr. Kim? Oh he’s just the CEO of Welcos! I had no idea who he was until Jean Kim the CEO of Hesed introduced him.

Frudia will be one of the brands launched in CVS’ new k-beauty section. The brand will be available in 2,100 stores nationwide. I’m a wholehearted fan of the products, not only will they be affordable for everyone, but the quality and time they put into their products is A1. All the products have a waterless formula and features a blend of cold pressed oils. I honestly had no idea the process of cold pressing oils takes approximately 72 hours so many brands don’t like to do it because it takes too long and the cost of doing so is no walk in the park either. Frudia stands by the integrity of their products and definitely excels at what they do.

I’m so honored that I was invited to this wonderful celebratory event! We ate chicken and waffle hors d’oeuvres, drank Frudia’s star cocktail of the night, decorated cupcakes and received amazing swag bags on our way out.

Congratulations and thank you so much Lara, Jean, Mr. Kim, Alicia and the whole Frudia team for including little ol’ me in all of the festivities. I can’t wait to gradually find a place for the products in my repertoire. Lara, you sweetheart you! She floored all of us when she asked us which line we wanted to try. Here I am being thankful I’m even receiving something and she spoils me further by giving me options?! It should be no surprise to you at this point that I chose the pomegranate line.

This collection includes the Pomegranate Nutri-Moisturizing Toner. I’ve already started using this and I must say I’m impressed. Now that I’ve really started putting it to use I’ve noticed that it’s light almost watery, but layerable. Since the Glow Recipe beauty classes I added I’ve incorporated some of the 7 Skin routine into my own. Instead of layering a toner seven times times two to three layers works well for my skin. I’m able to get by with two layers of this toner in the morning and three at night. Anything more and it leaves my skin feeling tacky. This toner is moisturizing and has found a home among my toners.

The Pomegranate Nutri-Moisturizing Serum was a crowd favorite. Tiffany in particular fell in love with this and I’m sure she’ll be using this very soon.

The Pomegranate Nutri-Moisturizing Cream is by far my favorite product in this collection.

It instantly put me in the mind of Laneige’s  Yogurt Repairing Mask. The texture, the scent, if this was a wash off mask I’d put them in the same category. Coincidentally I run to the Laneige mask when my eczema is flaring up on my face. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this is just as soothing. It sinks in very quickly so I’m hoping that means it packs my skin with hydration.

No collection would be complete without? If you guessed a sheet mask clearly we’re friends for a reason.

The Nutri-Tightening Moisture Skin Barrier Mask is a beauty to look at. Not only is it a moisturizing mask, but it’s also great from those looking for wrinkle care.

Continuing on with the goodies I’ve been blessed with, this time by mail. A few weeks ago I tried the One O Seven Snow Mask that Yumsy generously sent me. Needless to say the fit wasn’t…the best. After posting my review and #sheetfaced selfie a representative reached out to me about sending me another mask because that fit just wasn’t acceptable. I modestly said yes and here we are. The box has got some weight to it so I’m excited to see what they’ve blessed me with.

I’m a sucker for a handwritten note and I love whoever wrote this’ handwriting. So neat!

Again, I was honestly expecting the sheet mask! The fact that they’ve generously sent me not one but a full box of snow masks. I can’t wait to try this mask again and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the fit is better!

They’ve also indulgently sent me they’re Core Flex Cream Essence! I recently used the sample I received from BeautiBi and I really enjoyed it. It’s definitely a night cream preference for me because it’s on the richer side although it’s a light essence, but there’s no question about the moisture being there. The fact that it leaves my skin feeling silky to the touch is just an added bonus. Although it’s not this particular cream essence, but Rafael, I’d like to think he’s a comrade in skincare abroad, recently wrote a phenomenal blog post about their Coreflex Hydro Rich Cream. He’s excellent at providing both a quality investigation while honestly scrutinizing the intricacies of products. I’m genuinely a fan of both his IG feed and blog. Definitely check out his work!

Stepping outta my comfort zone, a bit.

Ever since Shea Moisture’s consecutive untimely fails I’ve been trying to expand my hair care range, but there are so many great products out there to try it was hard to narrow down a few I wanted to try. I just knew I wanted to try something from a black owned brand and that honestly worked well for my hair without a hefty price tag. These products can add up these days! When I saw the Mane Choice Hue Beauty & Natural Hair Affair II on while scrolling on Eventbrite I instantly felt like the time has come. 30+ vendors and businesses all under one roof? My ticket was $11.54! At this point we’re already winning and I haven’t even gotten to the event yet.

This year was the first year this type of large scale hair event was moved outside of Manhattan. The event was Downtown Brooklyn at the Sheraton Hotel. Being that this was the first year they’ve done this they tried to make the transition easy for shoppers by breaking the day into two shifts, the morning shift from 11 am to 2 pm and afternoon from 3 pm to 6 pm. I figured the morning shift would suit me better. The trains at expected were utter trash, as expected but I made it to the hotel at a reasonable 11:03 am. The line was long and the rain was drizzling but I was out there raincoat and all. I didn’t end up getting inside until 12:30! The line was literally moving at a snail’s pace. When I eventually got to the front of the line I found out they were letting us in 10 at a time.

Once inside and checked in I made my way around the booths. The affair was separated into two rooms and it was still packed! Nothing, but fros and ladies eager to get their hands on the sweet deals. For the most part all the vendors and businesses had some sort of deal for the day with the exception of Uncle Funky’s Daughter, everything was full price down to the tax. It was exciting to wiggle and wedge my way through the available spaces amongst women who looked me with the same goal in mind.

My first purchase came from Soultanicals as soon as I saw some walking out the hotel with a Soultanicals bag while I was patiently waiting in the rain I knew it was going down. I fell in love with the Knot Sauce years ago when I first tried it at the Takisha Waajid hair show. I purchased it, used it up and at the time it was only available online. I’m about that instant gratification, most times my impatience deters me from ordering things online. Given the opportunity to purchase again it was first on my list.

Ayo Ogun-McCants, the founder of Soultanicals was there today with her beautiful daughter selling these products. She had a 3 for $20 deal going so not only was I able to re-up on the Knot Sauce Coil Detangler, but I left with some new gems to try.

I tried the Fro Despair Vitamin Hair Repair. I saw mega deep conditioner and knew this was for me. I also love a good pump bottle.

This deep conditioner features a loaded organic supergreen medley formulated to prevent hair loss, rejuvenate hair follicles and repair the hair at a cellular level.

When I was speaking to one of the young lady’s working at the Soultanicals booth I was telling her I wanted a shampoo without it being a shampoo in the traditional sense because let’s be frank I’m lazy. She suggested I give their Master Hair Cleanse Curl Detox a try.

She explained that it’s not necessarily a shampoo, but a bentonite clay treatment to detoxify the scalp, drawing out impurities from the strands and repairing damaged strands.

Next up, I also knew for a fact that I wanted to try something from Curls particularly their blueberry line. I’ve heard positive things so it just made sense. Curls was selling each item at different prices, the two products I purchased were $10 each.

I’m lowkey a deep conditioner junkie when I saw the Blueberry Bliss Reparative Hair Mask for $10 I didn’t hesitate. It’s normally $20 at the beauty supply store so it was definitely a steal.

It was thick and buttery, but it didn’t feel like it would weigh my strands down. Although my hair is thick my strands are fine and won’t hesitate to be weighed down on me in an instant.

This felt like it would give me all the moisture I’m missing and I’m ready for it.

This Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly was my impulse buy of the day. Again, talking with the young lady that worked at the Curls booth she swore by this.

Now I’m not a gel, jelly kinda gal. I’m not one for tight, defined coils look I prefer my hair to just blow with the wind.

She assured me that this wouldn’t give me too much hold nor would it leave my hair crunchy. I’m side eyeing, but we gon see.

Obia Naturals was right next to the Curls booth, the Babassu Deep Conditioner has been on my must try list for the longest, they were offering 3 for $20 I mean, do you see where this was going?

My final hair care purchase at the affair was from Obia Naturals and I can’t wait to try everything.

Obia Ewah not only founded this brand, but she’s a trained chemist. Her and her brother were there today dropping a bunch of knowledge on their vegan, PH balanced products.

I’ve been spying the Babassu Deep Conditioner for a while so I knew that was going to be one of the 3 in my set.

The slip on this is insane, it’s creamy and rich I have a feeling it’s going to be a fun time. The scent is very earthy, but I’m willing to take the risk.

It only seemed fitting that I tried their Babassu Detangling Conditioner as well. The duo obviously sounded like the paired well together.

After playing with it and rubbing it on the back of my hand numerous times I found the creamy, but watery texture the move for me.

Lastly and definitely the most difficult for me the Curl Moisture Cream.

Obia Naturals had three different leave-in creams there today each richer than the next. I stood and played around with each for a solid 30 mins before deciding that this cream was the right one for me.

It’s very rich and thick almost whipped. I don’t think I’ll get much hold from this though this felt solely like a moisturizing cream to me. Only experimentation will tell!

We all know I loves me some snacks when I saw Ms. Latisha from Lala’s Cupcake Boutique there selling her delicious cupcakes for $2 a pop you know I was on it. I didn’t get to try her ciroc infused pineapple cupcakes but I got her card so I’ll be back!

I decided to try her French Vanilla and this gorgeous treat the Red Velvet Pecan!

The hair show was stimulating, crowded and full of steals. I could’ve done without standing in the rain so long and the swag bag shade, but I genuinely enjoyed myself and I’m so happy I was able to find some hair care gold can’t wait to play with all this stuff.

Bring on the dead people!

I paid my good friends at the Strand Bookstore yet another visit and purchase more manga. Some new, some continued series. We’ll start with Bleach vol. 8 by Tite Kubo.

I borrowed and this volume from library in a pinch because I couldn’t find it in the clearance bin when I needed it. Once I was able to find volume 8 for my collection I purchased it. I found this for $4 in the clearance bin.

Next we have the new, Assassination Classroom by Yusei Matsui. I’ve already read and completed this book. I’m so ready for volume two!

This concept was one that’s fresh to me. The class of 3-E is definitely an unusual, enjoyable bunch. This was also in the clearance bin for $4.

Last, but not least my latest addiction of the moment is the Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service written by Eiji Otsuka and illustrated by Housui Yamazaki. I’ve completed the first two omnibus editions and I’m legitimately hooked.

These sick tales follow a group of five Buddhist college students who unwittingly find themselves in the business of death.

Each student has a unique ability that they each bring to the delivery service for example without scatterbrained Numata and his dowsing abilities the team wouldn’t be able to locate where the deceased maybe residing no matter how unconventional the location.

Being that Makino may look like a preteen it’s easily to get thrown by her appearance, but she’s studied embalming abroad and is the second embalmer in Japan. She’s instrumental to the team,

Yata is diiiferent, he doesn’t necessarily have talent like the others on the team. Really he seemingly has no talent at, but he’s a channeler.

He’s only able to channel through the puppet on his hand though. The puppet does nothing but talk shit all day, pure jokes.

Sasaki is the brains of the Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service. She’s got a dark, twisted heartbreaking past, but she’s grown into a hardened hacking beast. She’s a whiz with any computers and technology. She really is the sleuth of all internet sleuths.

Most importantly but by no means insignificant we have Karatsu he’s able to communicate with the dead and bring them to some form of life?

The delivery service goes around Japan in search of corpses to relieve the dead of their final wishes so that their souls may rest. He has a…companion? A spirit that works through him?

Yaichi I don’t know much about her because her backstory has only been given in bits in pieces in volume 2. In volume 1 we didn’t even know her name!

No corpse is off limits as long as the paper is right although they often times forget the compensation part all together and end up broke most of the time.

It’s a morbidly, comedic series of horror stories that literally has me hooked. This is the first volume in the series that I purchased as I stand alone volume. The first two books I purchased were omnibus editions containing three volumes. It’s a change to not have to walk around with a brick in my purse.

The war in Iraq seems to be a reoccurring theme in this series.

In volume 3 Karatsu now begins hearing the dead from those that are actually still living! As a result of some sort of faulty transplants they team is lead down a gruesome road and somehow it all ties into the war. I’m excited to see what volume 3 has in store.

This was the only book that wasn’t in the clearance bin, I found this in circulation for $7.50.

Whew! That was a lot. This has been a busy week for me, but I honestly can’t wait to try and play with everything here. I feel so blessed and grateful to have so many people continuing to supporting. I have my hands more than full, but I can’t wait to share my experiences.

Mail Goodies! | Skin Factory x Manga

There are few or better feelings that compare to coming home after a looooong day to find a package patiently waiting for you to tear open. Throw in some new books and I have no home training! I received a package from Skin Factory, as well as stopped by my favorite bookstore The Strand to pick up some new books. Let me get into it because it’s late and my ass will end up typing all night.

Oookay Kelly, gurl I see you!

Skin Factory is a fairly new brand on my radar and it’s only there because @hellolaneybeautyblog put it there! She recently reviewed some products from Skin Factory as well so I was instantly intrigued. The junkie in me needed to get my hands on something. After corresponding with Kelly, a Skin Factory representative, she offered to send me a small package of their new products?! You know I hit my two step and began waiting patiently for it to come in the mail.

It. Has. Arrived! This little box is packed with goodies and I can’t wait to see what!

The first thing I see right on top is this Skin Factory Magic Tattoo Lip Essence. I’m happy it’s a lip essence rather than just one of those lip tattoo stain thingys that do absolutely nothing, but stain and dry your lips out for days to come.

This is supposed to be a 4-in-1 kinda jammie. It can be presented as a lip tattoo, lip essence, lip gloss and pink lipstick. The five different plant oil ingredients in this are supposed to keep the lips smooth, moisturized and shiny. I’ll probably use this as an overnight treatment or a lip essence because girl, pink lipstick? Me?

Cellulose and Tencel material masks are quickly becoming my favorite. Something about the amount of moisture put back into my parched skin. If you’re here from IG you’re also well aware that black sheet masks make me feel stealthy af so the next two masks they sent are just going to be a swell time. They sent their Real Shiny Pearl Ampoule Mask 

This mask is apart of their “5 Free” line,

• Mineral Oil Free

They also sent one of their Volcanic Ash Black 3D Mask. I’ve often read and seen mixed results with 3D masks but I’m excited to give this a go. This doesn’t have ear loops as with other 3D masks I’ve used and read reviews for so hopefully this one is different and stands out.

The last items I had the pleasure of being sent are the ones I’m most excited for because I’ve consistently seen reviews being put out about this Skin Factory Morning Recipe 3-Step! This is the one of the items @hellolaneybeautyblog tried and thoroughly enjoyed which in turn piqued my curiosity. I’m thoroughly intrigued because this doesn’t seem to be a traditional 3-step situation at all. Step 1 is a foaming cleanser to prime your skin and get it ready for the next step. Step 2 is a dual exfoliation morning pad. Step 3 is an sherbet ice cream moisturizer to lock in all that hard work.

Thank you so much Kelly and the whole Skin Factory team for these wonderful skin treats! I can’t wait to put them to great use and share my reviews on everything!

All I know is, Ichigo bet not turn into a Hollow.

I’m pretty sure some of the staff at the Strand and I are on a first name basis at this point because I’m always in there raiding through their clearance bins for gems and they never disappoint! I had help this time! Babe helped raid through the boxes with me and thankfully we found volumes 9 and 10 of Bleach.

In volume 8 shit went all the way left for both Ichigo and me! After a heated battle between Ichigo and Renji Abarai, Ichigo proves that although he’s new to the Soul Reaping world he can definitely hold his own given the circumstances.

Byakuya Kuchiki put a stop to all of that though by deftly stabbing Ichigo in the back destroying the source of his spiritual energy, his Hakusui and it’s booster the Saketsu essentially leaving him for dead.

Of course good ol’ Strawberry can’t go down like that and reaches to grab Byakuya’s foot alllll of a sudden Rukia finds her antennae and “remembers” who she is as a soul reaper and steps on Ichigo’s hand because apparently a mere human could never even dream of touching a soul reaper.

I almost had a fit and came through the book to beat that ass, but it appears that she’s once again trying to save Ichigo’s life since her brother left him for dead. Rukia, Renji and Byakuya leave him for dead while they return to the souls society.

In walks hat and clogs, Kisuke Urahara to save Ichigo yet again. Now that he’s a regular disembodied spirit he no longer has his soul reaping abilities and must train if he’s even considering rescuing Rukia for the Soul Society and Byakuya made it very clear that as captain he’s not going down without a fight. Ichigo must regain his soul reaper abilities, in order to do so Urahara has purposely severed Ichigo’s chain of fate preventing him from re-entering his body.

Now that the chain is severed Ichigo must either regain his soul reaping abilities or once the encroachment of the chain begins a big hole will be eaten into his chest and he’ll become a hollow. Kisuke gave him very little wiggle room lol either become a soul reaper or die! Such a savage. I can’t wait to see what’s going down in volumes 9 and 10!

Both volumes were $4 each at the Strand.

You know, I don’t know if I like this series, but I can’t turn away. It’s like a dark, grungy manga that’s not really a manga. I found Demo #2: Emmy in the clearance bin for $1.50. Being that these comics are so short I feel like I’m missing something, something I may not get until the very end of the series. I’ll have to keep ya updated on this one because something’s off.

BeautiBi’s 2nd Blogger Panel | UniTouch x Kingirls

I still can’t believe I was one of the lucky few chosen as a product reviewer on BeautiBi’s 2nd Blogger Panel! Me? Say what now?! When they asked for beauty bloggers to email them about interest in joining their panel I went on a whim and sent an email inquiry keeping my finger crossed that my email wouldn’t get swept up in the flood of other worthy candidates. When I received an email back from Jen about a week later I was ELATED! Babe and I were on the drive home when I got the email, he was as excited as I was! I had been going on and on about it since I sent the email.

BeautiBi was offering the amazing opportunity to try some masks from their latest Taiwanese brands, Kingirls and UniTouch! If you’re a skincare junkie like the rest of us here you’ve probably seen these adorable UniTouch masks floating around Instagram. The packaging is so eye-catching it’s hard to miss them. These wonderful Kingirls masks however somehow slipped below my astute radar and when I saw the opportunity I leaped at it! I mean, c’mon can you blame me?

Miss Ô if ya nasty.

I saw this gorgeous packaging on IG about a month ago and I’ve been thirsting since. The packaging is so chic! I later learned it was the relax mask I was spying.

Clearly I need a Miss Ô sun hat this summer because she’s killing it. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to try not one, but two masks the quality and caliber of UniTouch. The formulas for all the masks in this series have been meticulously tested by the GCB Skin Research Center which has over 40 years of product manufacturing proficiency under it’s belt! Through a calculated selection process they chose the naturally harvested essence oils of plants and grasses while their research and development team isolated ingredients that rejuvenate and repair the skin. There are no added chemical attributes that could potentially be harmful, no preservatives, no artificial coloring or dyes, and no added fragrances! This series is sounding like a sure win and the packaging is so cute how can you not love them?!

I received two masks from UniTouch’s Miss Ô series. The Outdoor Facial Mask and the Goodnight Facial Mask.

The Outdoor Facial Mask was created completely with the notion of sun safety at the forefront. In this case after sun exposure care. After long periods of sun exposure the moisture in the skin quickly diminishes and to supplement that hydration back into the skin, in walks this baby! This mask is described as delicate and packed with natural ingredients to help soothe and relieve sunburn or in my case parched skin.

The Goodnight Facial Mask sounds like a true facial treat. This is a hydrating mask described by Beautibi as an experience we all live for “putting on a pair of comfortable white pajamas for your face,” excuse me? That’s like speaking to my inner and outer product junkie! I still can’t believe I was selected to try this gem.

There are a total of five Miss Ô Mask in this series from UniTouch and of course they’re all available on BeautiBi’s site. Both UniTouch masks I received are $7.

“When Macaron meets Kingirls.”

Okay can we just take a brief moment for this packaging because…it’s legitimately gorgeous! The premise behind this mask is based on the cultivation of the fine, delicate French macaron. Just as a macaron is carefully crafted into three layers so is this mask.

I received the Multi-Fruit Extract Face Mask which is such a beauty! The ingredients medley in this has my palms itching for some exfoliation. Kiwi fruit extract, orange peel extract, pineapple, fruit extract, and apple fruit extract to name a few of the jam packed ingredients in this head turner.

The next mask I had the pleasure of receiving is an unconventional mix of bad and boujee. The Caviar & Grape Leaves 3D Face Mask is supposed to give your skin the ample nutritional benefits of caviar while suiting your palate with the sweet scent of grape leaves. This mask is physically unique because it has loops that go over the ears! This is a hydrating and brightening mask so I can’t wait to glow up you heauxes real quick.

The last mask I received is just as gorgeous as the rest, the Jasmine and Neroli Extract Face Mask is another hydrating mask that sounds better than the last! The star ingredients of this mask are bitter orange flower extract and jasmine flower extract! They’re supposed to work in tandem with the rest of the ingredients to provide a transformative experience.

What I love most is all these beauties are reasonably priced on their site. All three Kingirls masks I received are $6! There are a total of eight beautifully decorated mask in this collection from this brand.

Will this magic never end!

As if BeautiBi hasn’t spoiled me enough! They sent samples! Oh, how I love me some samples! Now that I’ve brought back #samplesaturdays and #samplesundays to my feed I’ll definitely be incorporating these goodies into my routines very soon! I’m so excited that I received a tiny L’Herboflore Hyaluronix Acid Moisture Energy Biocellulose Mask sample! They’re so cute! I keep seeing them with ladies’ orders but I’ve never had the pleasure of receiving one myself. Do I use this little guy as a spot treatment or a toner pad? I’m not sure, but I’m going to figure something out!

I recently tried the One O Seven mask Yumsy sent me not too long ago and it wasn’t…ideal, but I can’t wait to expand my 107 range and experiment with these samples.

Mail Goodies! | Easter #Happymail from @Lilchubmonkey x Manga

Now that my eagerness and pure joy has subsided a bit I can actually sit down to type! There’s nothing like coming home from a long day and having a package waiting for you. When one of my near and dear friends Luisa messaged me and asked me, “Did you receive your package yet?” I walked home with the speed and dexterity of a crackhead. I mean I was movin’!

I honestly can’t begin to explain how or why Luisa and I became friends so fast, but the last year and some change having her in my life has been a much needed and welcomed whirlwind. I’ve never been adept at building lasting friendships. I’m great at keeping to myself and moving about my business, but somehow Lou Lou found her way into my heart and has been sharing the reins with a few other ladies I refuse to let go of. Who would’ve thought Instagram would bring so many amazing people into my life without so much as a warning.

She told me last month she was going to be sending me something “small” for Easter, but don’t send anything back. I giggled out loud when she said that. She knows damn well that’s not how I do. I sent her a nice care package for Easter and she told me I’d have mail coming shortly after. Now that package of goodness has arrived let’s see what she’s blessed me with.

Luisa is always so diligent with her packing. She takes so much care in the packages she puts together.

The first thing I savagely tore the bubble wrap off, I mean see is this cute little cellophane bag with decants! It’s no secret around these parts that I looove me some sweets. Give me candy and we are friends! She knows I love M&M’s so the cute Easter tube warms my heart. The Demet’s Turtle Egg didn’t stand a chance it was gone shortly after I took the photo and I have no qualms about it. I’m going to give the Almond Joy to my mom she loves those!

This was the small item she told me she was sending for Easter. How she forgot the rest of this magical package? I don’t know, but I digress. She sent this cute Lip Smacker Easter Edition Lip Balm Trio. Whenever I see Lip Smacker it’s instantly a nostalgia moment. It was the first “makeup” product my mom caved in and let me use as a child. The three flavors are,

• Cotton Candy Fun
• S’more S’mores Please

Lou Lou you cease to amaze me! You and I both know I’ve tried my fair share of masks, but once again you’ve sent me some gems! I’ve tried one mask here, the rest I haven’t had the pleasure of trying yet.

Jules she’s bringing in the big snail guns!

I love a creamy, rich, milky essence on a mask. A lotion mask is speaking to me directly, throw in some snails and it’s a party! I’ve never seen this mask before, but I have seen Hey! Pinkgo Girl while browsing through Amazon so I’m really excited to try this Baby Skin Snail Lotion Sheet Mask.

Continuing on the snail train, she sent Etude House’s 0.2mm Therapy Air Mask Sheet, Snail. Snail masks are either a hit or miss for me so hopefully these are are wins.

Papa Recipe has been putting out hits lately! I’m still itching to get my hands on the red ginseng mask. Imagine my surprise when I saw that Lou Lou sent me the Bombee Honey Butter Cream Mask Pack. I didn’t even know this existed! I was so focused on the red ginseng mask that somehow this slipped through the mind gap. I can’t wait to try this!

Funny thing, so I bought one of these Jayjun Cosmetics Purple Fragrance Mask and ended up sending it to her in her Easter package because I wasn’t sure if she would be able to get her hands on it. Little did I know mama already tried and reviewed it. I was delighted and had a good laugh to see that she too had me in mind.

You again! I’ve tried this Jayjun Cosmetics Multi-Vita Tone Up Mask and it was a dud for me. I have a #sheetfaced review for it here. Hopefully I have better luck with this go round.

I absolutely love INSbyN! They’re a brand created with eczema sufferers like myself in mind. I’ve tried their deep aqua system mask and it worked wonders for me when my flare up was at it’s peak. I feel so rewarded to see their AC Calming System Mask in this pile of gems! She put so much thought into the masks she sent me and I feel so blessed right now.

Dried Bio-Cellulose Mask? Excuse me? This just sounds fancy! So this mask was created through bio engineering technology using fermented natural fruit water of a coconut. Yeah this Wishing U Advanced Firming Dried Bio-Cellulose Mask is going to be a good one!

I’ve seen Lou Lou and a few other ladies try this Dr. Althea Water Glow Aqua Ampoule Mask on IG quite a bit so I’m more than excited to finally get my paws on one to see what all the fuss is about.

Tony Moly masks are hit or miss for me, but I’ve never seen this I’m Real Cactus Sheet Mask before. Is this new? Is it a new formula? Is the fit different? I’m very curious about this and I’m happy she sent one my way.

Last, but by no means least she sent a very new product to me from a newly introduced brand Pyunkang Yul’s Essence Toner. The very beautiful Chie, @the.brown.eyed.fox and half of The Fox and The Snail YouTube channel, in conjunction with Ohlolly Korean Beauty Online coordinated a fabulous event and lunch in LA. At this event Ohlolly unveiled their new Pyunkang Yul products! Luisa being the considerate gal she is thought of me and got this toner for me. Lou Lou had a fantastic time and has been talking about the products since so I can’t wait to try this new toner that they’ve worked so hard on.

I never can say thank you enough Luisa. Not for always blessing me with care packages that make me blubber, but accepting me for me. Hot ass mess me. I get emotional when I think about how quickly our friendship superseded social media and I always tell you you’re stuck with me for life!

Suicide party? Say what now?

No shocker here, but I finished Terra Formars and Berserk from my last haul and I’m ready for my next manga fix. I stopped by The Strand Bookstore in Union Square and raided their clearance bin per usual. They always have gems tucked in there that I can never resist. I’ve seen prices range from $0.50 to $10! The manga has always been $4. There really is something in there for everybody.

I started with picking up Bleach volume 7 because volume 6 ended with so many cliffhangers about Rukia, one of my favorite characters, and I just couldn’t stay away from Tite Kubo‘s masterpiece too long.

After Ichigo and Uryû begrudgingly team up to seemingly defeat the menacing Menos Grande that appeared as a result of their immature contest, Rukia takes it upon herself to leave without warning.

I assume she’s doing this to try to protect Ichigo and the rest of her newly found friends, but it seems as though she’s doing more harm than she realizes. An order has been give by the Soul Society to capture or kill her. Little does she know two of the strongest Soul Reaper operatives have located her and are closing in. One of those operatives is her brother, Byakuya!

This is just turning into a family affair! Can’t wait to see whats really going on because there’s some obvious miscommunications here. I purchased this for $4.

I also picked up a new series to my collection, Alive Story by Tadashi Kawashima and Art by Adachitoka. I’ve seen random volumes in the clearance bin quite often, but volume one was never there so I bided my time until one day it would pop up. Today was that day! According to the description a bizarre virus is rapidly making it’s way around the globe causing it’s unfortunate victims to commit suicide! Quickly making this virus a lethal pandemic in less than a week’s time. Y’all know I’m always reading that dark morbid shit so this was a must read for me! I skipped out on watching the anime so hopefully the manga allows the story to really shine so I can be swayed to watch it. I purchased this for $4.

Demo #1 by Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan almost made it’s way back into the clearance bin, but I couldn’t bring myself to leave it behind. When the young man that was ringing up my purchases saw this he became giddy because it’s one of his favorites. He read all twelve issues in addition to the sequel. He commented on how good the condition of the book was to have been tucked into the back of the bin. He highly suggested that I see this series through to the end because there are lots of twists and turns to it.

Demo chronicles the lives of young people all on separate journeys of self discovery and awareness, but their living in a world that parallels our own where being different is feared and ostracized. There are twelve comic issues and a total of eighteen short stories. For $1.50, I may have to go back and raid the rest of the bins to see if there are more volumes.

As you could probably expect I can’t wait to dig into everything here! Between here and my IG I’ll have quite a bit of thoughts and experiences to share. Thank you to anyone ready and of course can’t wait until my next update!
